Quiet Please, There´s a Lady on Stage
Other day needed to visit our local Laundromat for some large/bulky items that won't go into the Miele. Whilst standing around waiting for the washer to finish noticed a new sign: "Customers Must Speak With Management *BEFORE* Using Ammonia In Washing Machines" it said.

Well you know Moi, simply had to get the back story on what prompted this latest restriction. *LOL*

Turns out one day a customer added chlorine bleach to a wash load where she had already poured tons of ammonia into the machine. There was a big *Ka-BOOM* with froth, water and fumes exploding from the washer. Fire department summoned, place evacuated, etc.....

Am really going to have to get a larger machine capable of dealing with bulky loads so one can stop going to this Laundromat. One seems to be taking one's life into one's own hands given the ignorance of the client base. *LOL*

Some people should not be entrusted with more than rocks and running water for laundering. It's a shame the fumes did not render her sterile so that her DNA would not be passed on farther than it has already. I'm surprised that someone has not tried to turn this into a lawsuit.

This is similar to the time when I was livng in the high rise in Silver Spring and saw a nice GE coppertone two door with Frost Guard in the basement near the laundry room. I spoke to one of the maintenance men about how nice it looked. He told me that it had to be pulled from an apartment where people from another land lived who did not understand that food had to be put in containers before being placed on shelves in a refrigerator so an otherwise very nice refrigerator had to be replaced.

Let's call this one "The Last Temptation Of Launderess".

I present the LG 8000 pair. You aren't too attached to your living room, anyway, right L?

A few months ago I mentioned that our neighbors across the street bought an LG front loader set. They selected the LG because they liked the color of the machine and all the pretty lights on the front of it.

I gave the lady of the house our last stock of Tide HE powder, some FOCA and some left over Persil. I can no longer use these because of my detergent allergies. Anyway I spoke with the neighbor and asked her how the sudsing action was with the Tide and the FOCA in her LG FL machines. The answer:

"Well, I never look at such things. I just fill up the detergent cup and press start and walk away. So I don't know if there are suds or not in the machine."

OK, I'm now waiting for the mold complaints....

You just need some Chinese people to operate the place for you. They watch your every move and if you do something they don't like they immediately are on your case yelling at you in Chinese. Usually they are seen carrying a gallon jug of "the pink stuff" fabric softener.
Keeps the oversudsing mamacita's in line.

Chinese Persons Do Run The Place

At least during the day a young man who recently arrived on these shores from China does run/work at this Laundromat. Indeed even his mother who he sponsored to come here also is there helping.

Owner of the mat is the same person who owns the apartment building where the place is located.

The Chinese man used to work opening to closing seven days a week. Now he works only day shift and a Mexican immigrant woman takes over for afternoon to closing. It was she who told me the story and that the events actually occurred on the the Asian guy's watch.

I hate going to the laundromat for one REASON. The Machines ALL have the MILDEW ODOR :/

Until I find a secret laundromat with no smells, I'll just keep washing that comforter and hope it's getting soaked in water..

I agree as well

Should have left her there until stupid fixed itself.  I have seen many stupid things done in laundromats.  Most common are using the wrong size machine or way overdosing detergent or softener.   One of the worst I saw someone used 4 FULL caps of non-HE Tide in a 40# capacity machine.  Thats enough for 6 40# machines!  Needless to say the machine sudslocked couldn't extract and she had to pay for another cycle to rinse everyting out.   One of the best though is the old "dry the comofrter on high" routine.  These are idiots who don't read care labels and don't understand that commercial dryers run hotter than home ones.  The comforter always melts and the customer always blames the machine.

When we wash and dry our comforter at the coin op we always use the "low-Med" setting. It dries the comforter without burning it.

But I can't tell you how many times well meaning housewives and others have told us "It'll never dry like that, you have to use HIGH to get your blanket done right."
And on the lower setting it seems to dry more evenly instead of having wet spots on it.

Mich-

"all of the machines have a mildew odor"..... It would be a bit of a drive for you, but Pocket Change coin laundry in Kalkaska Michigan has all nice, clean machines that always smell fresh and work properly. You can actually get a hot wash too.... All newer front load Ipso machines in single, double, triple, and quadruple load sizes, and one gigantic machine. Enough dryers too- regular size, 2 bigger machines, and 2 even larger than that. The place is always clean and neat, but I did see someone pour an entire small 10 load box of Sun powder into the gigantic machine once..... that was interesting...

After observing people acting stupid or weird their whole lives I am not sure that it is always stupidity that makes them what they are.

I have discovered that there is a segment of the population that is intelligent, but it would simply kill them to follow "the rules". If they read a warning label, they think "that's for other people, not for me."

When the woman across the street got her LG set we gave her all kinds of pointers about how an FL machine is different from a TL machine. We also warned her about detergent dosing. You saw what happened a few months later. She never even bothers to look at her suds level. I think it would kill her if she did. She HAS to do it HER way never mind the consequences.

Same thing when my sister got her Kenmore 2T set. She dumps in laundry detergent by the cupful. Then adds Downy by the cupful too. And I don't mean capful I do mean cupful. Still her machine 8 years later still has no problems.

When I encounter people like this I find it very aggravating. Why even bother with the recommendations in the first place?

There are a lot of people who simply just do not care about doing anything right or taking care of things- no matter how much money they cost or how much they spend to replace what they tore up. I rarely let anyone borrow anything I have unless I know them well for this reason. It amazes me the number of people that don't even try to do things right.

I learned that lesson years ago. If a person you lend something to does not have a financial interest in the item chances are it will be returned damaged.

I had a room mate back in college like that. We were living in an apt off campus.
We had an agreement. One cooks and the other cleans up. Every other night we swapped duties. The place had a dishwasher so it wasn't too bad.

A few weeks after we started this arrangement I started noticing broken glasses in the sink and one of the pans had a big dent in it. These items were owned by me. His stuff never got broken or damaged. I soon realized that he intentionally did this so I would get tired of it and do all the cleanup by myself letting him off the hook.

After about a month I threw the SOB out of the apt and lived there by myself. During the "eviction" process he tried to start a fight with me. I finished it. I beat the ever living daylights out of him. Yes, it was the wrong thing to do but I will say it "felt sooo good!".

Over the years I have encountered people who are just like that. They are usually miserable conniving SOB's.

A neighbor came to my parents and asked to borrow our good Cosco card table for a bridge party. My parents were not invited to the party which was cash nerve in the first place, but they let them borrow the table anyway and when it was returned, one of the leg mechanisms was damaged; no word of apology or explanation, just returned. For all we know it might have been swapped with someone else's table. After that, they followed what was probably the only good bit of advice given by Polonius and there was no lending.
