In reading some of these threads, I am pretty impressed by how some of you can discuss various features and changes based on model numbers and other factors. You use highly technical terms and refer to models by their model number system (VMW) like you have inside info. Anyhow, I don't know models and their names by model numbers, but I have my own system when talking with friends. For example, I use the following to denote Whirlpool dishwashers:
1. The newest is the square pump.
2. Next older is the strainer style.
3. Next older is the blade style.
For washing machines I say:
1. Newest is anti-world washer (my riff on the World Washer, aka VMW)
2. Next older is direct drive.
3. Next older is belt drive.
I do learn a lot by reading the threads so keep it up!
