You Know You're A Member of AW When...

We are a rather unique group, passionate and opinionated about subjects (appliances/laundry/laundry products) the general population rarely gives a second thought.

So, which qualities/behaviors/thought processes/quirks/obsessions epitomize AW enthusiasts?

I'll start:

"You know you're a member of AW when you purposely stain a bunch of flour sack dish towels with a dozen different stains to test detergents."[this post was last edited: 9/2/2015-08:50]

"You know you're a member of AW when.... you spending more time deciding WHICH vintage washer to use than on actually sorting laundry"

 

Don't laugh too much... this does happen to me fairly often!   * giggle *

When you have 1 washer and 1 dryer in your laundry room, 2 washers in your master bath, 1 washer in your master BR closet, a dishwasher and dryer on your patio, and 25+ appliances in your garage.

When you see a photo of a mid-1950's Westinghouse dishwasher and know that particular machine was the one year Westy employed a metal rather than Bakelite impeller (tomturbomatic).

...When your version of the alphabet is as follows:  K=1953, L=1954, M=1955, N=1956   etc....   LOL

When you browse the domestic appliances for sale on eBay several times a day just in case you find "treasure "

When people ask you about old movies and TV shows, and you describe all the great appliances but can’t remember the plot!

When you still go into appliance stores and know more than the salesman selling the washer and driers and tell him so.

<span style="font-family: verdana,geneva;">find youself "recklessly" dirty-ing extra bowls, pans, dishes and utensils because you can't wait to hear the roar of your vintage dishwasher.  That's of course after you decide which one you'll use that day.</span>

When you just woke up from a dream and realize you don't have a KitchenAid KDS-17 or 18 in your kitchen... Or when you eagerly count the days until it's "the big" laundry day again, then wash every possible thing in the house dirty or clean and watch the washer through every cycle.

"Normal" people laugh at you behind your back, but you can, and do, tell them that the Thor Automagic that they had been "eww gross-ing" has separate tubs for dishes and clothes, and that shuts them up right quick!!

when your landlord...

...asks you: "So why would a single person need 5 washers? Isn't that 4 too many?" (happened here last month) and, not even thinking about it, you hear yourself answering: "Nope, that is 4 x 4 too few of them".

Or when a friend comes up and says: "Hey soap wizard, I got under my truck, My hands are ok, but what can you do about that stained sweater?"

Or when your brother in law calls you from 300 km away and says: "Got that weekly leaflet of xyz market here. Three models here, priced almost identically, which one?"

Or you drive around to the back of every Lowes you pass by.

.... you have the ability to wash six loads of laundry at the SAME time... in YOUR OWN home!

.... you have somehow acquired more than 50 washers, dryers, washer/dryer combos, twin-tubs and wringers that date back as far as 1949 or 1950.
