Zanussi FL812 not running certain programmes

Hi there,

Is anyone able to help me please?

I am the proud owner of a Zanussi FL812, and having read several other comments on this site re: the Zanussi's of this era, I feel convinced that I should try and salvage what I have instead of getting a new machine.

The timer is failing to advance - I was wondering if anyone can try and help me with how I get the lid off the thing, and what I should maybe be looking at once I am in there?

Initially the programmes not running were H and T - the rinse programmes. My partner's washer recently started playing up, and that was fixed by giving it a good thump (!). I thought "why not". Now having given it a good thump, the washer briefly showed signs of returning to normal. It was shortlived, and now most of the programmes won't run with the exception of C,F,N,V,K and Z (C,F and V sound rather rather weak - I don't know if this is normal - I must confess I rarely use those - I always got by on programme G)

If anyone is able to help me please, I am extremely grateful. Do fire more questions my way if you need more info out of me; I'm extremely eager to get somewhere with this

Welcome to the forum.

I agree that these old ones are worth saving if possible. They are miles better built than any Zanussi you'd buy today. I have three 1980s Zanussi's myself.

I have to say it sounds as though the timer motor (which controls the movement of the cams) is wearing out. Unfortunately there were two different types of timer fitted to these machines. One is manufactured by "AKO" and the other is "Crouzet". Depending on which version you have it may be possible to change just the timer motor. If not you're looking at a whole new timer. These are still available but come at a price. I should also warn you that they require a lot of patience to fit (many individual wires to swap) and one false move and you could blow the new timer.

To remove the lid there are four screws or bolts to unscrew underneath the lid at the rear of the machine. The lid then slides forward off the retaining lugs and off. Take care to remove the mains plug from the wall before touching anything inside.

If you could provide me with any identification numbers or letters printed on the timer it would help me to identify which version you have.
