Earlier today I was asked to look at a Zanussi TC7103 Condenser Dryer which had a permanent 'tank full' light, but no water in the condensate tank. A quick investigation revealed that a spring loaded spigot which I assume should be attached to the machine where the tank plugs in was loose on the floor under the machine. Inspection of the part revealed a circumferential groove, which looks like it should hold an 'O' ring or similar seal.

Questions..
Should there be an 'O' ring in the groove?
and...
Does the 'O' ring (when fitted) retain the part in place when the condensate tank is removed?

Can it really be such an easy fix???

Any thoughts would be appreciated

This is something I've had happen on a couple of condenser dryers in the past. If the O-ring wears out, it can either break or ping off, thus the valve no longer operates when the tank is reinserted. Because water cannot enter the container it accumulates in the sump instead, triggering the tank full light.

The link below shows an exploded diagram of the condensing system on this model, where you can clearly see the location of the O-rings on both the sump valve and tank valve.

Replacing the O-rings cures the problem. I always did the full set while the dryer was apart, just to be sure. The genuine parts are far too expensive for what they are however, so you may prefer to source them from a hardware supplier instead. Maplin, for example, sells a bulk assortment pack that will do the job nicely, with plenty left over for future repairs or other uses.

Many thanks for the diagram. I've got a stash of assorted 'O' rings (somewhere!!). I'll have a look before I'm next at that site.

The customer was seriously considering replacing the dryer for want of an 'O' ring!! Luckily, over several years, I've trained her to do nothing like that until she's checked with me... ;-)
