    Maude and the dishwasher repairman

"Findlay's Friendly Appliances"... That was the name of the appliance business Walter owned. Not sure if he was Maytag or not. I remember one scene where Walter was sucking up to some holy rollers to get their business and Maude was pissed about his hypocrisy. As only Bea Arthur could do...

Frigidaire Custom Imperial DW-CITP Wont Advance

I am so happy you got it running! That was our first dishwasher (ours was white).  We bought it used from a friend who didn't want to wheel it around - Dad ran plumbing and made it a permanent install and we used it till we redid the kitchen in 1973 or 1974.     I thought it was the neatest...

Frigidaire Custom Imperial DW-CITP Wont Advance

OMG. That is the same model of our very first Dishwasher Does it have the "slant top" with butcher block surface?  Loved the sound it made when you pressed the cancel/drain button.  Can you please post a photo of the control panel and inside of the unit?  Also, I remember racks being attached...

    POD - Kenmore

I was going to ask the same thing! Is the external water unit that box on the wall above the washer control panel?  That is a pretty cool feature.  I am surprised that isn't done in some high end front loaders today - similar to the water softener in my Miele dishwasher.

    Easton Laundry, Easton PA

Mark, I am not sure working in that place... Would be considered "fun" if you had to do it 40 hours a week for years. Looks like back breaking labor in unpleasant conditions (brutally hot in the summer especially). It must have been brutal on their hands (no gloves that I could see) plus I...

STPP and ETD (explosives trace detector) test

a few years ago i got pulled aside for further screening They found traces of nitrates on my bag - turned out to be from the fertilizer my partner had transported for his Dad in his van. TSA was nice about it though. The lady actually explained what she was doing, even pointing out we had...

    STUPID DETERGENT IDEA 2-28-16

Great to have you back Keven.... Just the other day I was wondering where you and a few others from the past were and how you were doing. Laundress, I forgot how much fun that thread was... have you used any more of the vintage Persil since then? How different is the scent from the modern...

    Electronic typewriters

don't forget the Electronics made by IBM, Xerox, & Exxon In the 80's there were several electronic typewriters. They were the follow on to the IBM MT/ST and Magnetic Card machines. The IBM machines first used a 96 character element (ball) and later went to the more common daisy wheel which...

Question for the experts on early dishwashers

Hello, I have watched "Dinner for Eight", the 1934 color film about the benefits of the modern electric kitchen (Love that Kitchen!). In the film, Mrs Mortimer simply turns a knob and the dishwashing is done. But, reading the manual for the G.E. Dishwasher of 1937, it was rather a manual...

On the hunt for an old gas stove. Not just any.....

was red an original color for these ranges? or are they painted that during the restoration? I have seen Western Holly green/yellow ones that to me look more "50s" but not sure if that is an original color scheme either? Any one know for sure?

    Preferred Laundry Detergent.

Gus, what persil did you have issue with? We usually use the Megaperls (universal or senstive for whites, towels and bed linens and the color formula for colors). Scent isn't overpowering usually - and both my partner and I hate strong scents on laundry. However, we got a box of the Universal...
