    Dispel detergent

Where do people get this idea that Unilever doesn't test on animals? They were caught at it only last year. Tests involved potential Slim-fast ingredients being used on pregnant rabbits that were then killed as they were about to give birth. Why were they even testing the effects of slimming...

    Original Persil

According to the blurb, Ariel Pods have six enzymes (no idea what the sixth one is). I guess this is more than any other product on the UK market?

    In wash fabric softener.

Never understood the point of these - they were really expensive and didn't work as well as separate conditioner. @liamy1 - As for 2in1 products, they use a clay based ingredient 'bentonite' that supposedly softens fabrics. It doesn't really work that well, as anyone who has tried Bold would...

UK Article: Is your laundry making you ill?

...we discussed it in this thread @ foraloysius - Oh dear, I said virtually the same thing then as well. Hatred for the Daily Mail never changes! Have to agree with mrx - this repeated story can't just be coincidence as Dettol launches yet another dubious anti-bacterial product. I'm surprised...

UK Article: Is your laundry making you ill?

Didn't the Daily Mail publish this exact same story a couple of years ago? Tomorrow - "SAUSAGES KILL YOU!" / "BREATHING MAKES YOU FAT!". They love nothing more than scare-mongering. I've yet to hear of anyone becoming ill from wearing clothes washed at 30ºC.

    Comparing detergent - testing

Where does it say Persil isn't tested on animals? Lots of Unilever stuff is, despite what their website may say about funding alternative methods. Not all P&G stuff is tested on animals either. The new Ariel Pods aren't - see point 3 in the picture below:

    Comparing detergent - testing

I've honestly never found Vanish to be that good. If a stain won't come out with detergent alone, it won't come out with Vanish added to it, in my experience. I think for Vanish to actually work on tough stains you have to leave it to soak in the stuff for a few hours, or overnight. I'm not...

    Clean Rinsing Detergents

I bet P&G have just brought liquids back so they can sell a couple of bigger pack sizes, gel is only 16 or 24 washes. They also arrived just as Persil Small & Mighty was about to relaunch. Can't see why they'd get rid of gel and like aquarius1984 said, the Ariel ones have got new label designs now.

    How are Liquid Detergents Made?

YOU'RE like a bunch of witches... Cheers! If you wanted to know the answer to something and the answer is given, try saying thanks or even acknowledging that people bothered to post it, instead of ignoring it in favour of asking "Where can I buy Tide?" and resorting to name calling.

    How are Liquid Detergents Made?

What was the point of this thread? Answers were just completely ignored by the thread starter. Nice.

    How are Liquid Detergents Made?

There's a video from 2009 on the BBC website demonstrating how a single bottle of Persil Small & Mighty is made. Pretty much all the ingredients are liquids or solvents, apart from the powdered optical brightener. Some of the surfactants are solids at room temperature, but are stored in ovens...

    Clean Rinsing Detergents

OBAs are in Ariel Colour Pods, no idea why. Ariel Colour Gel had OBAs when it first launched, then they removed them.

    New Persil 'Small and Mighty'

It's a new formula, but the same 35ml dosage. The "3x cleaning" thing means it now gets rid of grass, oil and red/tomato based stains, due to an extra enzyme they've added to it. I've never been convinced by any Persil liquid before but might give it a go seeing as it's on special offer at...

    Clean Rinsing Detergents

They had the new Persil bottles in Waitrose. They look quite cool but have shrunk down to 15, 25, 40 or 60 washes but the prices have gone up - surprise! The 40 wash bottle costs almost the same as the old 54 wash bottle while the 60 wash size at £13 is replacing the old 85 wash bottles that...

Ariel 3in1 pods arrive in the UK

They're basically just an updated version of liquitabs with two swirly bits on top and slightly smaller. Asda had the old ones on clearance for the last few weeks.

Ariel 3in1 pods arrive in the UK

Picked up some regular and colour Ariel Pods today - about to give them a whirl! Noticed they had new Ariel, Bold and Daz liquids too. The Daz one comes in a Lenor style bottle for some reason. Ariel and Bold are now more concentrated than the old same size bottles and Ariel liquid has the new...

    Ariel Bio

Isn't a boil wash for pasta sauce stains a bad idea? I've always thought you risk setting the stain in place that way, especially if it's dried in. I've never washed anything like that above 40ºC and after a soak, Ariel does shift it then.

    Ariel Gel

It's very good. On heavier stains it's better than own label gels which give fairly average results at best, but are probably fine for everyday washing. Just don't buy it in Tesco, they charge a ridiculous £6 for the 16 wash bottle and £8.17 for the 24 wash size. Another rip-off from Tesco.

    Fabric Softner

"Unilever is against animal testing and funds research into alternatives." Nicely worded. Just a shame it doesn't mean they don't actually test (or have never tested) on animals. Companies that claim to be against it may not do it on their own premises, but it doesn't mean they don't pay some...

    Tesco's Fabric Softener

Pasteurisation is used to make milk safe to drink, not formaldehyde!
