    Bleach Detergent?

Just reminded me Several people I work with commented that they prefer to wash their dishes by hand, and they always put a little splash of LCB in the dishpan to prevent salmonella, colds and flu from spreading through the house. Sounds like a great idea. But I never got around to asking if...

    POD 10.26.2019: 1976 Kenmore w/ Woodgrain Consoles

Better than ever? The voice in my head said uglier than ever, too! I’d like to know how many of those WP/KM BDs were built before WP finally changed their design to DD. That was a long production run for a product with only minor changes to the basic platform.

    Bleach Detergent?

Fascinating idea Mark and I heart! Also, I use Finish powder. Per the label it has enzymes. When I got my Maytag DW a couple years ago, I used to use Cascade powder. It started etching the glasses. A friend’s Mom said use Finish - it’s easier on dishes AND gets them cleaner. She was...

Exploring a Samsung Heat Pump Dryer

Not to mention That in the long run there’s more to break and repair — and I’d expect the chiller/coil to be an expensive repair. I dunno....

Exploring a Samsung Heat Pump Dryer

Sounds like a great idea for energy efficiency but.... Has anybody ever seen a dirty air conditioner coil or dirty refrigerator coil? I’d think if the coil gets dirty, and it would in 12 months or less, then it’d be a fairly major thing to pull it out and clean it, and meanwnhile the laundry...

WSJ Editorial Board: Make Dishwashers That Clean Again

Phooey on the naysayers My Maytag dishwasher that is a couple years old cleans better than all my previous machines and it’s virtually silent. It just took a little experimentation to learn how to use it. First off, it cleans best with the longest Power Scrub or whatever the cycle is called...

    Simethicone experiment

I tried Persil discs. As I expected, just one made a bad oversuds in the FL given my softened water. I knew the new Tide powder uses simethicone to control suds, so I took some simethicone liquid for babies, diluted an eye dropper of it in a cup of water, and poured it in the detergent tray...

Cool water washes lead to bacteria in washer

Yes, Mark I love ammonia too! Especially with sheets. And I don’t do funky towels. In fact I only use a towel and washcloth once. Re-used towels are full of bacteria and they smell bad. Why wipe odor and bacteria all over yourself after showering? Makes no sense.

Cool water washes lead to bacteria in washer

Yes, LCB on colored towels Yes Mark! Once I had a big load of old blue/gray bath sheets that I had used to clean up a muddy garage floor. They were FILTHY! I didn’t care if the LCB removed the color; I just wanted to get them clean. So I rinsed out any sand or grit in the stationary tub...

    Vintage Appliance Advertisements: Part Fifteen

Thank you so much for all the time and effort you put into these threads. It is such a peaceful joy to take these nostalgic trips down memory lane, especially in the morning over coffee.

    Tide Original HE powder

Agree with Gyrafoam Hi Steve! Very much agree that modern detergent is vastly better today than years ago. Especially Persil, which outperforms anything at my house but Tide is a great alternative. Woolite is also great for cleaning knit shirts but being kind to them. Anyway, seems that...

    Tide Original HE powder

Wondering about the liquid Also have a several years old bottle of Tide Original Turbo HE and it too was high suds tough rinse, so I’m wondering if the Iiquit has been reformulated too.

    Tide Original HE powder

Just bought a new box. My old box was 4+ years old. It lasted forever because any more than a teaspoon or two caused an oversuds. The new box is so different! They must have changed the formula. The scent is barely noticeable. And I can use a tablespoon or two without getting an oversuds...

time for a new front load washer

Hey Chris It’s been too long stranger. Why don’t you come over to my place with a load of laundry and check out the Speed Queen FL before you decide? I have no idea what I would buy if I were in the market but you might as well test drive what you can— and we could catch up same time.

    Clothes stink, not washer.

It depends on the load I have a SQ FL and softened water. A heaping teaspoon of Tide HE powder is the right amount and makes generous suds, but not too many suds to interfere with wash action, with a load of towels. With a load of tidy whities, it takes 2 level teaspoons in the prewash and 2...

    Vintage appliance business model

Wow Who wouldn’t love to try a few loads in a washer and dryer before buying? Fantastic idea. Maytag Store was doing that for awhile before the downfall and WP buyout. Only thing is that people would figure out which machine they like best and then buy it elsewhere at a lower price from...

    Question for Bendix experts

In what years did they manufacture the Power Surge vs the model with an agitator that used vacuum to squeeze water out of clothes instead of spinning?

New Persil "10 Dimension" Clean - I quite fancy it.

It’s such a wonderful sophisticated, complex, intriguing scent. So unlike all the cheap, simple, tacky American scents. Persil is my favorite, both for scent and cleaning ability, which is second to none in my experience. I never buy stain products anymore. Pour 2in1 on the stain, set it...

    Speed Queen!

All you have to do to work around the SQ’s lack of a heater is to set it for a pre-wash. The clothes and tub cool down the pre-wash water quite a bit, but they do retain enough warmth so that the main wash will then stay warm or hot. It works great. And for people who have filthy greasy work...

    Todays POD Maytag AMP Washer

Dumb questions OK, going to spring the question: what is AMP an acronym for? Automatic Maytag what? And another: why did their first design have that close double tub bolted together like that? Seems like it would fill with sand and debris over time and get nasty. And those exposed...
