Came and Went: Tide w/ Acti-Lift

    Yes...Thanks Jamie! I'll give the HE a version a try! :)

    Sears Detergent

@ retromania... ...you shouldn't have any problem with it. I have pets, and it cleans up their accidents very well.

Came and Went: Tide w/ Acti-Lift

Tide Coldwater (Non-HE) I had always liked the Tide Coldwater liquid. The last batch I bought with the Actilift was too sudsy for me to use for small loads in my regular top-loader. I read a lot of complaints on the Tide site about it discoloring their laundry. That didn't happen with me, but I...

    Laundered items-- color bleeding

Another rabid sorter here.... Pure white stuff, white with a bit of color on it, light colors, medium colors, darks, blacks and navy blues, and reds. I'll add another vote for the Rit Color Remover; that stuff works great.

    Sears Detergent

@ dirtybuck I know with the Neptune, you're stuck with the dispenser, but how did you add it to the top loaders? I have found it not so forgiving if just poured into the bottom of the tub; it works best for me when I start the fill, add the powder and let it mix in. After the machine's about...

    Sears Detergent

Interesting.... It's over by the appliances at the mall here (Clackamas Town Center). I am amazed at the lack of consistency at where they place it. Too bad...it's excellent product.

    Detergent thread 2011

That sounds good.... ....I live in Portland, OR and I'm on the Bull Run water system. Normally, we have less than a third of a grain per gallon, so very VERY soft water. Once a year or so, due to turbidity or some issue, we will switch to the North Portland well field, then there's about 4-5...

    Detergent thread 2011

@ polkanut How sudsy is it? I'm interested because with our soft water I tend to get suds lock on my Admiralpool with small loads (I gave up on Tide Coldwater for that reason). It would be nice to have a lavender scented product that costs less than the Seventh Generation.

What could be the year of this particular kitchenaid dishwasher desing?

I recognize that machine.... My friend had it in her kitchen....it was with the house when she bought it, and it was still going strong when I left the area in 2000. Washed like a dream, even though she was never that interested in proper loading.

Speed Queen 2-Speed Top Load Washer Won't Complete Cycles

I agree with mbr627... Over the years, I've had that happen with two machines, a Kenmore and a Maytag. If you explain what's happening, they will probably arrive with new timer in hand. The Speed Queens are really nice machines; I bet you will love it after the repair!

    Admiral!

Admiral/Maytag Now.... ...is pretty much identical to the BOL Kenmore, Roper, Estate, Inglis washers. I have one sitting in my kitchen because Home Depot gave me a better deal than the other places. It's actually a very respectable machine. Good capacity, cleans the clothes well (and I'm...

    Clorox Ultimate Care Bleach

Low Pile Carpeting Adjacent to the Laundry Area... ...so I never use anything with chlorine. It was enough of a mess when the last washer's pump sprung a leak. I'm still a little afraid to use anything stronger than oxy cleaner.

Ultra Plus in a Top Loader "Any special instructions on how to dispense it in a top loader?" @dirtybuck I add a scoop into the washer while it's filling. It seems to do fine with my cool water setting (70F on my Admiralpool), but I use liquid in the gentle cycle for further insurance. It does...

A question for those who use their vintage dishwashers daily.

If I Had a Good Place for a Built In.... ...I would probably use the dishwasher more. But I really don't, since the former owners remodeled in 2001 WITHOUT a dishwasher. The cabinets would have to be redone in a serious way, since the one place one would fit would block traffic flow. I grew up...

Poll : Plate Warmer Feature on Dishwashers.

Never Have Used It I usually have the oven going anyway, so I just stick the plates on the back burner over the oven vent. The oven is usually full to capacity (big fan of all oven meals here), and it warms up the plates nicely.

    Sears Detergent

Orange Box.... ....I haven't seen the orange box online for a while now. I had to buy the one in the green box last time and it seems to be working quite well too. I haven't noticed any difference on my clothes.

    Sears 1975!

I Grew Up with That Lady Kenmore.... We had the same woodgrained panel LK in avocado. Other than replacing a trouble prone top rack under warranty, it never had an issue in many years of service, and it washed like a dream. Noisy, but I'd trade my 2002 model for one like it any day.

    Calling Captain Unrealistic...

This Reminds Me.... ....of the "antique" Morse (think Electrophonic) console stereo that pops up here on Craigslist from time to time. It's one of the Morse cheapies from the mid-1960s, 5 inch speakers, record player (cheapie BSR no less) doesn't work and they figured out how to use the...

Sears Ultra Plus Powder I use the Sears Ultra Plus for the majority of my stuff. I keep a bottle of the Seventh Generation Blue Eucalyptus and Lavender liquid for some cold water darks that I run on Gentle. I add some Sun Oxygen cleaner to the whites, and some STPP to really dirty stinky stuff...

    Filling a Wringer Washer

My Great Aunt.... ....used a Maytag wringer washer well into the 1990s. She had an adapter for her kitchen sink so she could use an ordinary garden hose at the faucet. She used a short hose and laundered in the kitchen in the winter, and had a longer hose to reach the "back porch" in summer...
