1969 BOL Kenmore
I recall a 1969 BOL Canadian Kenmore with a black straight-vane agitator that only had a cycle knob and nothing else. The wash program had 2 sections - Hot Fill and Warm Fill. That was it.

They are actually Inglis - Whirlpool's former Canadian counterpart. My folks old Inglis set had that same round sticker that the washer in this pic has. I've seen that sticker on many appliances here when I was young. It has a green maple leaf on it, but I can't remember what it was...
So which did what?
I understand that the suds-return cycle worked in different ways, according to make. And it highly depended on whether the tub was solid or perforated.
I know that:
Maytag perf tubs, all Whirlpools, GE perf tubs and all Easy's filled while agitating.
Frigidaire solid tubs...
About that laundromat...
...with the turquoise SQs, were the dryers the large Huebsch ones with the little round windows? Usually where you find Speed Queen washers, they're partnered with Huebsch dryers.
And that 70s SQ must've had a white agitator, that's one of the main points of that...
The definate make!
As I posted earlier on this thread, Beatty is the Canadian version of Easy. Like Inglis using the WP design, Beatty used the Easy design. You'll notice the dryer has the lint filter in the bottom right corner, just like the Easy. Beatty later became McClary. The Canadian...
Agitator Wars
I understand that Sears or WP had a fit when GE and Maytag copied the DA agitators in their machines, and forced them via court order to discontinue them.

My family's old Inglis washer did something similar when it got old. When it kicked into spin, it would start up very sluggishly, and sometimes make short screeches at each revolution, until it eventually came to speed. Sometimes it was unable to pick up speed and spin very sluggishly, and at...
I don't think Canada ever had this version of the WP/KM dryer, with the lint storage bags. I notice that the lint storage is on the opposite side of where the lint trap is on the other models. I see that those dryers were made in the days of the belt-and-pulley drive system. This this dryer...
That's Right
In Canada, Simpson's and Sears were 2 department chains that were consolidated through the 60s and 70s. Then in the 80s, Simpsons hooked up with The Bay (I'm sure many are familiar with the Hudson's Bay Company). This partnership then sold Beaumark appliances, which were made by...
Gilligan's Island
Gilligan's Island had a washer with a similar design, but with no motor. It had the front part of a bicycle mounted to it and Gilligan sat on it and peddled to power it.

Yey Canada!
I remember seeing machines like that when I used to go through the Kenmore section of the Canadian Sears catalogue. Brings back memories.

Canada Followed Later
I believe that the 29" BDs continued throughout the 80s here in all makes (Inglis, KM, WP, Admiral, Kitchen Aid), and I don't think we ever had 24" BDs. I think the DD first came over the border around late 80s or early 90s.
