    Help choosing a vintage Maytag

Ah! Someone's unloading those? I'd never let mine go! LOL

HOW IN HELL CAN I CLEAN A MAYTAG FILTER OUT?

It appears that I, and I suspect others, have noticed a repeated hatred/bias in your posts towards top load washing machines. Granted, everybody has their own preferences, and biases, it's part of human nature. I too, have my own preferences, however I don't believe that I'm so angry at any...

    Under-the-tub lint filters

GE had the best idea with the FilterFlo filters.

    Maytag dependable care or performa?

Yes, BUT..... The single plastic gear in the Helical drive is the smallest, and first gear in the drive chain, which is under the least amout of stress/torque during agitation, thus making it's job the easiest.

    Samsung 240 volt Vented Combo!

And the Spin debates go on.....:ROFLMAO: And with that, I'm gonna spin myself out of the thread. Being overly critical about such things is..... a bit obsessive.

    Still Dead Microwave

I have an online photo of it, but sorry no personal pics of it. This is the unit, it's an R203 series.

    Still Dead Microwave

Sharp was known to produce quality microwaves. I purchased my Sharp Carousel 800W in 2003 at Sam's Club for $47. It gets used every day since then, no problems. ;)

    Maytag dependable care or performa?

Didn't the Performa machines have a transmission that used all plastic gears? I've seen the video of a guy pulling one apart, and inside were stripped out gear teeth and broken bits of those teeth all over the inside the damn transmission.. To hell with that crap!.... At least as far as I know...

HOW IN HELL CAN I CLEAN A MAYTAG FILTER OUT?

CLR is good to use to clear out the hoses pump impellors, and anywhere the water flows. I've used it in the dishwasher and the washing machine on occasion. half a cup, some hot water, let it sit a few minutes, then flush it out.

    Still Dead Microwave

If this machine uses a smooth "touch pad" style keyboard, it could likely have gone bad due to aging. - tarnishing and corrosion interferes with some or all selections. And there's no way to service the pads, nor are any still available for something that old. In that case, I'm quite sure that...

    Samsung 240 volt Vented Combo!

I just performed a quick "spin-test" on my Maytag A482 machine. I attached a small magnet to the top of the agitator, so when it spins it would send a signal to a fixed coil near it, and send a pulse, registering each revolution on my oscilloscope. Empty tub, final spin speed registered 10.26 in...

Rykon no 2 grease and Turbine Oil?

In my work overhauling various products, I've gravitated to using synthetic grease for many things. It sheds water/moisture better than petroleum greases. It doesen't attract dirt. And it seems to last forever without hardening or drying out like pretroleum does. In the shop over the years, I...

    Still Dead Microwave

I believe it's a touch pad style, so the electronics may have issues.

    Still Dead Microwave

It's likely that the Magnatron might have failed, or the control panel electronics have an issue. Also the rectifier or main capacitor could have shorted, and blew the fuse. These are all common problems we've dealt with in my repair shop.

    Samsung 240 volt Vented Combo!

I'm well aware that the higher the speed, the more water is extracted from fabrics. I'm also aware that the tub bearings are put under additional stress, particularly with unbalanced loads - resulting in premature failure. And with todays less-than-stellar manufacturing, that costs consumers...

    Samsung 240 volt Vented Combo!

For years, washing machines had spin speed of around 500 to 600 RPM. With a roughly 5 minute spin time, the clothes came out damp-dry enough for a dryer to handle. And life went on, without complaints. I see no reason to spin garments at jet engine speeds. It's all Marketing Propoganda.

When did Maytag start to go bad?

Unfortunately, this is the reality that the world is having to deal with. It's like the corporations involved are some sort of bizarre evil devils trying to make people nuts, and brainwash them into crippled puppets with little to no powers to do anything but comply. And on top of that, having...

my Bosch dishwasher has 3 different "intensive" programs & they make it sound like they're all better than each other. what is the difference?

Isn't this modern appliance technology, along with the electronics and its APPS involved just a wonderful thing? I feel so "left out" with my old, but perfectly working Kitchenaid dishwasher from 1970s, that only requires me to load dishes, pour in detergent, close the door, and push the Normal...

When did Maytag start to go bad?

So.... I'm learning about those nicknames for some washer parts... So... my washer's got that "Power Fin" agitator huh? Nice to know. Also, is my 1985 A482 considered one of those "Dependable Care" machines?
