Circa 1955 Western Holly gas double oven -

I would like one of these, but right now I have nowhere to put it and I'm not even close enough to go pick it up. Very nice though! ~Tim J.

Making A DVD Using .MPEG2 Files (or other format)

I'm not exactly sure what's wrong, but I was having trouble with burning DVDs too. I tried to use Windows DVD maker (for Windows 7) because I liked the choice of menu pages. I couldn't get the program to burn the disc. I then tried Nero and still encountered trouble. So I looked on the...

Home for sale in Wausau w/ beautiful St. Charles kitchen cabinets.

That home, although probably older than the 50's, has alot of 60's hold-overs in the way of decor! I see drapes and furniture and built-ins galore! The kitchen is great as well. But my favorite part is the aqua and peach bathroom! ~Tim J.

Best cat litter/ what do you use?

Littermaid I've had mine for 3 years without any mechanical issues at all. I suppose since my cats are indoor/outdoor it doesn't get as much use as it would with an indoors only cat. During the warm months, they are rarely inside. They come in to eat and to occasionally nap then they're...

Best cat litter/ what do you use?

Firstly, I haven't the time or desire to scoop litter. I bought a Littermaid. One of the best purchases I've made. I suggest and recommend it to every cat owner. They try to get you to buy their brand of litter but it's way over-priced. I've tried different litters each with different...

Ever Wonder How Commercial Laundries Deal With Flatwork?

The hotel I work for has a big ironer like that, but it's not as fancy. No touchpad controls and it doesn't auto-fold the napkins or auto-count them. Those have to be folded and counted by hand. It does auto-fold the table cloths and sheets and spits them out the side. You can hear the...

    Hotpoint Fridge

Very nice model, but..... It's my guess that not too many people are going to "rush" to his door with $600 scrambling for this refrigerator. ~Tim J.

    Has anyone else heard this???

I'm probably the least green-living person and I think banning incandescents is an awful idea. There is not a single CFL in my house. All incandescents. The only solitary flourescent is a tube fixture over the telephone desk and that gets used very rarely. I hate the light output of CFL's...

    Western-Holly Two Porthole Wall Oven

In my future home I have made room on the kitchen floorplan for two of the single oven Western Hollys. Whether I find them or not, there's going to be two of something vintage there! ~Tim J.

    On bath towel softness...

paulc The bamboo towels are white so I wash them like any other sturdy linen. Mexican Ariel detergent, hot water, and a little chlorine bleach. They've held up very well after three years. They haven't deteriorated or developed holes at all. They look as they did when new. I dry them in...

    On bath towel softness...

I'm not entirely picky about towels, but I do prefer higher-end quality. I do notice a difference between box store brands and boutique brands. The weaving and assembly is somewhat crude in the cheap towels. It's almost like brushing a scouring pad on your skin. I also find cheap towels lose...

    Phone Thread

rp2813 I might put some insert cards in them. They both had crude inserts with typed phone numbers. I removed them. I think it looks OK with some of the mechanism showing through the clear plastic fingerwheel. ~Tim J.[this post was last edited: 6/15/2011-17:23]

One of the primary reasons I have a land line at all is so I can make use of my rotary phones. I have several but the one I like the best is a restored Automatic Electric model 40 with the chrome handset bands and chrome fingerwheel. Sooo art deco! ~Tim J.

Before Corning Ware and VISIONS . . .

Visions I think my mom has some 80's visions. She has a whole set. She doesn't use them anymore but she has them. Small saucepan, Large Saucepan, Dutch Oven, Big Skillet, and Small Skillet (all with lids). Cake pan, brownie pan, loaf pan, and pie plate. All in the amber glass. I remember...

That turquoise kitchen is great and I'll bet the house is deliciously mid-century as well. ~Tim J.

    Homemade Laundry Detergent

I read that article and I probably won't ever have the patience to make my own, but I won't critcize anyone that does. I went on to read some of the comments and one said: Fels Naptha? Is it 1957? I was sooooo tempted to say "Yes. Yes it is." To me, it will always be 1957. Athough that was...
