    Maytag A408S Rebuild

Not All Bad It looks like corrosion from that bleach hose possibly. I've seen far worse looking machines still perform fine. This just can be cleaned up considerably and as long as the base plate isn't completely rotted away, the rest is negligible. you can remove the motor and clean it up and...

    Kenmore Portable DW

Daily grind I'm still around, unfortunately my day job swallows me up and I don't get around to appliancing as much as I'd like to. I work in education and the COVID mess has really put the brakes on a lot of things here as well. Hope everyone is doing well! Thanks Tim

    Kenmore Portable DW

Roto Swirly I just picked this up tonight, it was down the street from where I work. It's pretty clean, might get around to trying it later. Very neat machine! -Tim

    The Huge Tiny Norge Rebuild

GE Water Hoggery GE *could* have done something similar, and probably *should* have done so in the 40ish years of the run of the machines. Going with their existing solid tub design with some slight mechanical updates gave them a perforated tub machine without the cost of a complete redesign as...

    The Huge Tiny Norge Rebuild

1/3 the fun It's a 1/3 HP Emerson motor. The machine seems to be about 1974 from some of the dates on various parts on it. Tim

    The Huge Tiny Norge Rebuild

Well its a Montgomery Wards machine, but all Norge inside. These little guys are very handsome in avocado green. Both needed help. These are very unusual machines in that that they are only 21" wide. The dryer is very deep for what it is and the washer is essentially a full-size Norge with a...

    Sanyo Washer

Adorable! Well that little guy is just adorable. Like many (all?) Japanese portable automatics from the era, they never spun between wash/rinses. My Hitachi and Panasonic based units also do the same thing. Thanks for posting this, it's really cool! -Tim

Tennessee Appliance Dealer Going out of Business

Abe I'm sorry to hear about Abe, he was a really nice guy. He loved to talk and had lots of information that he shared. My visit to his shop was a great experience, I feel like there's not a lot of people out there that can be so jovial and welcoming to strangers. He will be missed. Tim

"Old Cool" whirlpool dishwasher - $40 (Tonawanda)

First Dishwasher This is a Power Scour model. I have the same dishwasher in portable version and I can attest that this is the best dishwasher I have ever owned. It's the generation just before the Power Clean model. Mine is a 1981. If it's in working order, this is a good unit. Tim

    A pair of Avocados.

Gold Panel Halo These are 77's I believe. A short time where the shaded cabinet, gold control panel an the HOH all existed at once. I have a 406/7 set the same way in Coppertone. This is the very last of the Halos. Tim

    1969 Hover Washer ????

Color Matching Fun This is a hair newer than 69, at least the one in the photos. it's late 1970 through 1972. For a while Hoover would let you mix the colors on these, I've seen green/brown and yellow/green. Interesting looking for sure. Somewhere around 72/73 they became unified color schemes...

    Need help with DE50

Poly Belt So did you source another belt for the blower? Just curious, glad you got that timer going. Such neat little dryers and they dry very well. Tim[this post was last edited: 7/22/2015-16:03]

Rare GE Vintage 1950's Monitor Washer Spinner - $150 (Town of Newburgh)

Hitachi I would wager this is an early 70's Hitachi clone. It's not a 1950's appliance... It has the same cabinet as my 70s Hitachi and the doors are the same. They made a gazillion machines with different colors and so on from that design. Still a fun machine, at least they don't want like...

    Look What I found!!

Pinky Pink I love these little Westies. Very interested about that boot, you know we're never going to shut about that right? Seriously is it new or just a retrofit of some sort? Tim

How old is my "new" Whirlpool Compact washer?

Even more blabbing! (Brief History of the WP portable)   Also an interesting note about the portables is this is actually the 2nd generation portable, not the 1st as they are called often. Believe it or not, the original portable automatic from WP/KM was just a shortened full size 24" machine...

How old is my "new" Whirlpool Compact washer?

Baby Belt Drives   I've had my 1981 for about 5 years now and I love that little thing. I've recently had to move into very small quarters and I've recommissioned these into daily use. I've put rollers, belt and idler in the dryer and aside from a squeaky pump on the washer, that's been it...

Maytag A806 very hard on clothing

Wearing down... I've also noticed that the Maytag tubs seemed to be very susceptible to friction wear. I've picked up several that were very dull nearer the bottom of the tub, which to me would indicate more along the lines of abrasion than anything. Either way I can't imagine a dull porcelain...

LDE612 dryer not heating.. is it likely the heating element?

Awesome   Glad to hear it's working. I think it feels nice to fix things yourself.   I didn't want to sound like I was slamming these dryers earlier, I was only noting the condition that they came to me in. I went through 2 DE408's thought with mysterious timer issues, turns out it was a bad...

2 Lady Kenmore Washers and Dryers - $700(set one) $100(second set)

I'm Sorry   But $700 for the Electronic set?????? Are people THAT crazy? I wonder if they even know that these are over 30 years old?   Nice set, but not $700 nice...   If you want to spend $700 on vintage machines that have been done right, see John Lefever. :)   Tim

    Wash-In March 2015

I need a Fix I'm glad everyone had a great time, I've decided I need another wash-in to go to... My 1st was John's back in 10/10, what a time. Unfortunately money is very tight right now and traveling very far is not really in my future at the very moment. So if anyone in the KY/OH/VA/WV/TN...
