1934 GE Monitor Top!

This one is for sale in Monash, Victoria. Apparently needs some work pertaining to the compressor, but otherwise appears to be in reasonable shape, overall not bad for, oh,  80 years!

They go and go and go

Mine is a 1936 and I am the second owner if  you can believe that! Last year it quit , I got the service manual off ebay and found it was the run capacitor , now he's back up and humming like a charm! And boy do they get cold!

The cabinet is older than 1934.  The nickel trim and large hinges date back to the late 20's.  Looks like the top unit was replaced at some point. The original would have had exposed coils and a tall thin thumb wheel type temperature control box mounted at left rear.

 

JC, that 1936 is stunning.  I love the MT's from that period.

my friend there in the picture and his strapping son helped me insert new rubber gasket around the MT base there. It takes 3 to service a MT!

 

That new rubber made a HUGE difference in keeping the interior dry as moisture was constantly condensing through cracks into the interior.

 

Charlie runs dry and cold now.
