Tom, I like the way you view estate sales. I love going to them, but when the family leaves photographs up on the walls and is selling them, that's when it gets to me.

I emailed the link on the ad and asked how much the washer and dryer were and just got a reply. He wants $850 for the set. Clearly he knows he has something you don't see everyday. If someone is willing to lay down the money they would have a nice rare set to add to their collection.

I have to disagree with you Corey. While it is a very rare set, there is no way that set is worth $850. The most the seller should be asking is no more than $400. The amount of time & the scarcity of parts this set will require even if the machines are used on an extremely limited basis is huge. I just wish the best to whomever gets them. GOOD LUCK!
Horses for courses I suppose. We've seen club members "set the price" for more than that on less scarce machines. If they were white, I'd agree, but has anyone ever seen another charcoal '57?

I've paid more for less. I'd say the price is a steal. There are plenty of Unimatic and Filtrator parts around. The only rare part would be the timer glass.

My dear friends, the Kaceys, had the '58 Custom Imperial pair in this exact color,charcoal gray and the matching Imperial refrigerator with the bottom freezer and step pedal.Their dishwasher was a 1957 KitchenAid Superba in stainless steel and a Suburban gas cooktop with the matching 24" wide wall oven.Their flooring in the kitchen was all black linoleum with tiny sparkles in it and the walls had stainless steel tiles on them.They were "the Jonses" of our street and had lots of firsts including a built in pool, garage,Lincoln Continental,microwave oven (Montgomery Ward made by Tappan),and a European ten speed racing bike.Nobody else had any of those "luxuries" yet but,I got my first ten speed bike (Iverson,piece of shit)that year(1970)and wound up getting their washer and refrigerator when they replaced them with newer models. Frigidaire had just been dropped by GM and Ms Kacey insisted on a Maytag.She first replaced the washer with a new Maytag and the refrigerator with a sxs Amana.Both in almond.Nowhere near as beautiful as the previous set.

Must say that while $850 is a lot of money,
for this set, it is a steal. I'm with Peter and Cory on this one. These machines are as rare as hen's teeth, and I'd pay quite a bit more to get them, if I could go hunting. Alas, I can't. With continuing hope that one of us gets them,

Cadman, while stunning, the gas was evidently not vented out well enough.You could always smell the pilot lights were on and the houses there were really small compared to the ones in the same neighborhood that had basements and were built with brick outer walls instead of those old style shingles.We had our home remodeled with a new bedroom added on ( I came unannounced ) and aluminum siding put on over top of the old shingles that were made using asbestos!!!!!!!There was no basement and our attic was nothing but the beams over our ceilings with Fiberglass insulation in between them. When you went into the attic, you had to keep yourself from stepping in between the beams because,if you did, there was a pretty good chance you'd fall straight down through the ceiling.My nephew, Richard now has that house and has completely redesigned and remodeled it.

They won't be at the estate sale.....
Got an email back from the people running the sale and he stated that he has a standing offer of $2000 for the set and the family is considering selling them for that before the sale. Seems someone on this site really did want them badly.

Every single time someone posts a rare and or interesting auction/sale here in the group, what was formerly considered little better than salvage by the seller or sellers, now is worth and fetches big money.
Bet the minute the link was posted the seller was bombarded with messages and offers.
In the end it gets a whole lot of persons hopes up and often leaves nothing but bad feelings.
Every single time someone posts a rare and or interesting auction/sale here in the group, what was formerly considered little better than salvage by the seller or sellers, now is worth and fetches big money.
