This was not an automatic ice maker. I THINK the feature was called Ice Ejector. The ice cube trays were specially designed to work with the ice bin that was on the door--you put the ice cube tray upside down over this rectangular bin and pulled up on the lever. It was an integral mechanism that worked with the dividers in the ice cube trays to make it easy for the ice cubes t be released from the ice cube tray.

I have an ice ejector. It's a pain I'm the ass to use. I originally was eluded by the vintage ads, but the cubes don't come out easily. I have to use a knife to pop out 3 or 4 of them every time. Conventional metal or plastic trays work much better. I understand why they stopped making the ejectors.
I can remember my aunt had a '60s Frigidaire with Ice Ejector system, and how my cousins would battle with that thing to get it to release the cubes.

Yes, they did start sticking after a time.
The reason was that they came factory-coated with a very light wax finish, to aid release.
Using them degraded the coating, and washing them pretty much eliminated it altogether.
I've never tried it, but it seems to me that rubbing vintage trays with a bit of melted beeswax or paraffin wax could restore their non-stick quality.
