I'd like to find a home for my white 1984 Imperial 21 dishwasher (KUDI21DS2). This dishwasher lives in Denver, Colorado.
I use it every week or two, but I'm a bit of a philistine by this site's standards. To me, it's just a dishwasher. My complaint is that it seems to hold water somewhere inside itself between uses and when I haven't run it for a couple of weeks, an odor develops. I'd like to [gasp] buy a new dishwasher.

All dishwashers are designed to have a bit of standing water in the sump. This keeps the seals drying out. Keep the dishwasher and run it more often.

Thanks for the reply. My girlfriend said the same thing when I told her I wanted to replace it. She says a new Bosch will smell if it sits unused. I guess great minds think alike. And one thing I've learned from your community is that for performance & reliability, a Bosch is no Imperial. I'll accept the advice to run the Imperial more often.

Dry Time

As a vintage washer/dishwasher owner, I'm a big proponent of letting the unit set with the lid/door open for several hours after use.

BTW, be sure to remove the wash arm and clean the filter under running water every once in a while. I do it after every load but most are pretty lazy about it. Some owners, including original owners, are not aware that it needs to be cleaned and they're run for decades like that.
