Jeff---Atlanta's parade has also become more of an economicaly centered with different businesses and civil leaders in attendance as well as the usual fire trucks full of the firemen/women that protect the "neighborhood" around Midtown, etc.,etc. "Gay" money has become very powerful around Atlanta, as it has in other municipalities around the world. That is the most important statement of all to make in this world. "Money talks!"
Nevertheless, I've never been to a Pride Parade anywhere that wasn't a lot of fun! And ooooh the eye-candy!!!!!!
Its only the people using "shock" to make a statement who make Fox News and the rest of the media happy. They love to feed the world that "shocking" stuff and thats what the world remembers!

True Colors
Last night we celebrated with a group of friends and went to the True Colors concert at the Greek Theatre in Los Angeles.
This is a huge outdoor venue in Griffith Park. Cindy Lauper, the B52's, Andy Bell, the Puppini Sisters, Wanda Sykes and others.
It was a blast and an incredible show!! Every act was outstanding. The audience was about 50-50 straight/gay. (Cindy Lauper asked for a show of hands.) The artists closed the show by all joining on stage and singing "Everyday People" and "True Colors." Each act encouraged the audience to get involved, to vote, to talk to family and friends and to extend equal rights to everyone. It was so uplifting! Part of the proceeds from the show went the Human Rights Commission.

While we were at Don's, a few of us drove by a house Don wanted us to see and then stopped at Menards to see the trade-in appliances they had for sale. This Hotpoint is one I've seen at least a trillion times, but not usually in gold!

Sunday was the actual parade down Henepin Avenue in Minneapolis. This is the gay motorcycle club, aka Dykes on Bikes but there were quite a few guys in the club as well so that doesn't really fit any longer. Loud, leather and fun - a great example of the diversity within our own "minority".
Our Omaha Pride parade is rather dinky compared to the major cities' parades and I'd forgotten how much of a corporate presence there is - these companies aren't stupid, there's a lot of money in the gay community! This is the Wells Fargo stagecoach, one of several that travel the country appearing at local events, parades, etc. Good to see it here!

Lots and lots of drag queens through the parade, some good and others... All in good fun though and always entertaining which is the whole point!

After the parade, we walked over to have lunch at a restaurant near the Mary Tyler Moore statue downtown. This always begs a picture - here's Pat and Fred with Mary.
And this is what I came home to...
We had a huge storm on Friday night and this gigantic limb, 30+ feet long and 12" in diameter ended up on my roof! It was removed today and there appears to be little if any damage to the house. I'll scamper up there this weekend and check it out for sure, but it all looks OK now...

Here is a picture of the storm moving over downtown Omaha. It was a whopper with a punch 112 MPH winds clocked in North-Omaha.
