Mold & Gunk In Washers

In my reply #91 I did not say that Free & Clear type detergents cause mold , I said that many of our customers that use F&C products say they do because they are sensitive or allergic to scents in detergents etc and the irony is they are often the ones that have washers that are full of mold and gunk from poor washing practices which is far more likely to cause allergic reactions than scents in detergents that millions of people have no problems with.

The F&C products are no more likely to cause mold and gunk than regular detergents.

As to imitation appliance parts, DON'T use them unless there is no alternative.

From the CNN article

"But thanks to advances in both washing machine technology and detergent formulations, hot water is no longer needed in most laundering scenarios."

Ummmmmm....... what are these 'advances', exactly? Talk about a non-explaining explanation!

"Cold clean stupidity!!!
Exactly.
Do you bathe in cold water, wash dishes in cold water?"

Odd that people don't see the contradiction between cold being fine for laundry but not for your body or dishes.

Maybe the melting point of skin oil has lowered in recent years and we've all managed to miss the memo?

pump I had installed before was a COUNTERFEIT

Buyer beware. The dark gray color and no markings: obvious aftermarket part, technically not a counterfeit, the seller just lied. What did the packaging look like?

I use Ebay.

Same products available on Amazon, prices are often better and items I've received are always as described. Negative feedback keeps most sellers honest. Aftermarket parts are listed as "For Speed Queen" ,"For Maytag" etc.

Hi Douglas,

The packaging was a plain box, just some code printed on it. That immediately raised an eyebrow. I already got my refund, but I sure had a hard time installing it. Funny, most of the reviews on the product were good. But then again I read somewhere ratings on Amazon tend to be questionable at best.

thats the thing with reviews, what they dont tell you is the credibility/sanity of the person posting....

you have people posting who have absolutely no clue of what their talking about....seems like people rely on the stupidity of others, which can be scary!...hence the creation of Consumers Report Magazine!

Thanks Louis!

Thank you Mike!

Would I do this over again? In a heartbeat. Yes, it was frustrating at times what with the water pump, and the time it took to get parts but ultimately it paid off. I am happy with it's performance and fast wash cycles.

The sound deadening mats really make a difference and I will install them on the Maytag A806 and DE806. Not to mention the KitchenAid KDS-58 is going to get the treatment as well. I tend to run the dishwasher late at night and it's a tad too noisy.

Thanks everyone for the advise and encouragement.

I’m glad to see that your using it now. It’s been a long time coming. Hope you will enjoy it. Am anxious to hear what you think of cleaning results, compared to other machines and if it lives up to your expectations. What detergent do you use? Am curious.
Can’t wait to hear back more from you.

I have a top load SQ too. 2015 AWN I think.

Hey thanks Barry. So far I have been very happy with the results. It seems to perform better than the Kenmore Elite I had before it.

As for detergents, for this particular load of underwear I used Gain, Lysol and Suavitel. On occasion I'll use bleach and for stains, Spray 'n Wash.

It's a tradition for all my "maiden" washes David.

Ultramatic

I see where you added KilMat panels to your washer, I've a case of the stuff lying around (it was intended for another project) and am considering applying the mats to the inside cabinet of a Speed Queen top loader I am currently refreshing on all 4 sides.

My machine is probably the current TC5's "father", a machine not known for it's silent operation.

What percentage would you estimate that the noise level was reduced on your machine?
