25 YO Hotpoints are retiring

So why retire a perfectly working, handsome, matched set? Please don't say its to get a front loader to save water, electric etc etc blah, blah, blah. I did the same thing 4 years ago and wish I didn't. I never noticed much of a difference in utilities and your clothes really do come out better in an old fashioned top loader.
I think you made a good choice and more than likely they will be running fine for another 25 years plus.
Sorry that you've had to put the Hotpoints down, but you have to do what is right to keep your household happy!
I do notice that your dryer duct should be erplaced with aluminum ducting to bring it up to code and safety for your family.
All you need is 2 flexible U-Joint and one flexible aluminum dryer ducting, heating duct tape and upto 4 4 inch adustable clamps.
It's a 20 minutes job after picking it up at Home Depot or Lowes.
What did you do with the old set?

Flexible aluminum is acceptable but ridged ducting is better. From what I see in your photo the ducting is no more than 8 feet long going straight up and out so go with the ridged and tape all seams. Use two 4 inch elbows (adjustable or fixed) and 4 4 inch clamps.
Since your ducting is short, cleaning once year is fine, you may get away by 1 1/2 year since your ducting distance is so short!
If it longer than that, you should clean it once a year during the spring through fall months.
Most debris will be found at the elbow attached to the dryer.

I still use the old flexable plastic ducting but should upgrade to metal flex. My dryer is not used that often but it is not permently vented outside. Many years ago, in another house that I lived, I forgot to hit the start button when the phone rang. It was sub zero outside and the next morning I finally remembered and hit the start button on the Maytag. I heard this horrible bang, bang and the load of clothes were froze solid. That little plastic damper outside was worthless obviously and cold air was coming in like crazy. Here, I built a board to easily fit in the window next to the dryer and seal it with the vent pipe when using it that easily comes out and vacuum everything out real good once a year. I never realized a dryer vent was almost as bad as leaving a window open in cold weather.

We put alot of thought into fixing-up or getting new. I don't have the space to keep the old Hotpoints. The Hotpoints look alot nicer in the pic then in person! The driers electromechanical timer broke and they stopped making this part a while ago. Even though the washer still worked it sounded like a hellicopter was landing in the back yard (I mean load). So my plan is to strip some parts off of the washer for my Father-inlaw and bring them to a scrap metal yard. My wife loved the idea of getting a new toploader that I could tweak to get a full tub of water (while we still can).

something ridiculous like 90% of all house fires start in the dryer vent being uncleaned. And vinyl and corrugated piping catch lint thats why smooth pipe is the best option.
