While innocently perusing the new listings at appliance.com, I pushed the washer/dryer icon and looked at one of the June entries, "New stainless steel KA Laundry Pair". Being naturally curious, I checked it out. Very industrial-looking. Oh, and by the way, they can be yours for only SEVEN THOUSAND FREAKING DOLLARS!!

'Scuse me while I grab my inhaler.....

I've heard there is some degree of hand-assembly involved in the manufacturing, which likely accounts for the price tag. The washer does not have water heating. Supposedly there IS a market for them among high-end kitchen designers and homeowners.

I'm sure there is a market for high-end stuff, it's just that I could never justify spending $7-large on one measley laundry pair when I could buy 6 pairs of the new Frigidaire FL'ers and still have enough money leftover for a nice bottle of gin and a car payment!

It would be so cool to have a mini-laundromat like that. Of course, a number of the collectors who frequent this site have just that! And they're uber-cool vintage machines, to boot!

They got their crust...

Soaking people that kind of money for a washer and dryer. No heater? for that kind of money?

I would like to see these. I'm sure some Maui Gazillionaire will have to get a set of these! I just wonder if it isn't the "Duet/Hettie/Ensamble Machines in a shiny new cabinet

Think of how many cooler VINTAGE laundry equipment that money could buy!!!
If I really had to pay that much for laundry machines----I would pay the cleaners to do it.-or take it to the laundramat. For 7 grand-that would pay to run LOTS of machines.
Wonder if the "guts" of those machines match their prices??they have a very industrial-labortory look though.

Obviously there are enough people with enough money that aren't going to miss $7000 for a washer/dryer. Look at the rest of the KA lineup in their pro series, $400 toasters, $300 blenders,$300 coffee grinders. If you look closely at those toasters (which are made in China btw) yes they are heavy, yes the exterior is all heavy metal, but inside is just a plain old $10 toaster mechanism that doesn't even pop up. So relatively speaking the $7000 laundry isn't that bad..lol

There are some who spend that much and more on a restaurant-style range. Or a pool. Or furniture. Or custom draperies. Or home theater equipment. It doesn't take much effort to spend $10,000 on home theater electronics.

Depends on the individual. Wants, needs, interests. And pocketbook, LOL.

Looking at the doors on these KA machines,..are these made by frigidaire?
Before i bought my TL washer i was trying to find a KA TL washer but they seem very hard to come by now, all the big name store here like Sears, The great indoors, PC Richard & sons don't carry the TL washers.
I suppose they are being offered through independant dealers.

I received word from our very own MagicClean that this KA frontloader DOES have on-board water heating, and the usual complement of sanitary and stain-treat cycles and other related functions to maintain water temperature.

Also, if I understand correctly, Nebraska Furniture Mart has this KA pair on display . . so there may be a visit to see it during the Convention. Yay!

Surprised to see that snap.

KA issued a directive early this year pulling all it's products from Internet vendors or anyone else selling online. Think KA is trying to become more exclusive with it's distribution as befitting a high end appliance line.

Guess that is prolly why the caption along with the pics does not list any vendors.

KA

$300 KA blender?$400 toaster(is it a toaster or a toaster oven?)$300 coffee grinder-how much for their coffee machine? For the blender-I'll stick with Vita-Mix.I have a less expensive KA blenders in my appliance collection-they don't hold a candle-or mix to the Vita-Mix.Wonder how the $300 KA blender would compare.
My Home theater equipment was expensive-but not $10,000.If you are spending that much---buy a real theater and pay it back by charging others admission!!In some of the HT magazines I get the HDTV projectors featured in them cost MORE than some cinema film projectors-guess which is really MORE HD??
Too-I'll stick with curtains and drapes bought from the store-work fine for me-and many you can clean at home without dragging them to the cleaners.

What a Waste!

Rex:

I agree with you 110%. As PT Barnum said..."There's a sucker born every minute." Just because something is outrageously priced, doesn't mean that the quality is any better than something a little more moderately priced. I guess this product line is for the idle rich who have nothing better to do than flush their inheritance down the toilet. May I offer a suggestion....buy an $1800.00 set and donate the rest to charity, or...since they like to spend, buy some basic washer and dryer sets to donate to Habitat for Humanity.

$7000?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!

Not even *I* would spend that much on a washer and dryer! And this is me we're talking about!!! :-)

Can agree with you on the idea of money and appliances for charity.Makes more sense than blasting 7 grand on that SS WD set.The person may even get a tax deduction for their good efforts. The price on that WD is just as crazy as the $15,000 price I saw on a "joystick" controlled riding mower I saw at a mower shop a few years ago while shopping for a mower.Ended up buying a used Snapper rider and a on sale at Home Depot Toro hand mower. Both of those for far less than that Stainless Steel bodied mower!!That mower would match the SS KA WD set!!Bet that mower would be fun to ride and drive though--maybe the mower shop should "rent it out" for folks to enjoy the ride.Appeared to be a commercial model.

Any further info?

Has any additional information popped up about this beast? While I most likely will not spend 7K for any w/d pair, I am most definitely curious about it...
