For all those spiked window sill fanciers

Who could ever have thought that I would make pictures from these things:

Another one (they are not as common as I initially believed, it took me a fair amount of time to find these examples):

The spikes are not for pigeons, those are much thinner, needlelike I would say, but to deter us humans.

Window sill spikes like those are very rare in California - I figure that's because of the legal liability issues, should someone "accidentally" fall on them and then sue for injuries. I also doubt they are intended for pigeons, because pigeons would not normally roost so near the pavement. Plus, they could easily avoid the spikes - no so with the brush-like narrow spikes used in the Bay Area (like on BART) to deter the little poopers.

I stand corrected... It was just a guess...

Yes, the "spikes" here in California are indeed "needle like." And, they're everywhere, especially in Southern California. (Here's an example of the bird spikes in use here in the U.S.) I was just taking a guess that the spikes pictured in the previous posts might be a European version.

Most storefronts I've seen in the US don't have window sills at all. The glass comes almost flush with the exterior wall, so unless you had a very tiny butt it would be very difficult to perch upon the intersection of window with building.

As a result, our homeless just sit on the sidewalk and do their thing. Some of them are quite deranged.

Bird spikes...

Yep, those are the same ones that we have here. They are usually placed on historic buildings and much higher up than the anti-humans spikes.
