ps. The Supertwin 111 did wonderfully on Tuesday's wash!

FANTASTIC! Good god that was well done fellas - you really did it up! Thanks all for sharing -

Truly, you can see and feel the sense of accomplishment and camaraderie from 3500 miles across the Atlantic! Love all those Twinnies - they seem to still be pertinent over there more than they are here.

Have to ask: whats the bank holiday you guys are celebrating? Type of Labor Day, like us on Monday? And please urgently send over some of Steves Millionaires Shortbread..."tickety boo!"

"Bank Holiday"

That phrase means something entirely different (in U.S. history) than what you are celebrating.

When Roosevelt took office as president in 1933, at the depths of the Great Depression, one of his actions was to close all the banks for a period of time, to prevent panic withdrawals. Hence, the term "bank holiday".

I'm assuming your holiday is nothing of the sorts.

On a very basic level "bank holiday" on both sides of pond pretty much break down to same thing; days when banks are closed and or employees are given off/paid OT if they do work.

For instance the last Monday in August is "bank holiday" in England/Wales.

While first Monday in September is Labor Day and a "bank holiday" in that the Federal Reserve is closed, which by extension means so are nearly all other banks in the USA. Labor Day is also a national holiday in that many (but not all) businesses are closed.

In a way both serve one same purpose, they extend summer holidays by a bit.

Hello Johny and welcome to the club and madhouse, yes its good to get together and sort stuff out, as with anything vintage they always need a little coaxing and nurture..

Yes the twintub washers where a staple of UK laundry rooms and kitchen, compact and easy to move around, and probably why UK housewifes were the last in the field to move to automated laundry appliances.

My fav is the Servis models being the ones mum and family had..

Hello Fred, thanks for the explanation of your Bank Holiday, its easy to dismiss as just a holiday without realising the significance. It is a tradition when our banks and companies shut down for a workers holiday.

Its the last holiday for us so everyone tends to make more of it especially as in August - which is usually or hottest month but alas this year cloudy and rainy...
