A visit to the "appliance Junkyard" in Phoenix (actually Glendale, AZ)

Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

Help Support :

Todd (Washerlover) and I discovered this place together. They had a pink GE Filter-Flo in the showroom and a back room filled with the cream of the crop. Last time I was there years ago they had moved them out but no idea if they sold or kept them, but they were not interested in selling any to me at the time. Fun times going through that lot though, right Todd?

I love the third picture. The grass looks like shag carpeting.
Is there a danger of rattle snakes being in these washers?

i need to go!

Hi there id like more info about buying and looking around for parts for my kenmores . Can you give me the address and contact info for this junk salvage yard/? thANKS

Making up my mind: Which one, which one, which one????

Not much more washin', dryin', cookin' or cleanin' that ANY of 'em can do--or just be surprised at one randomly hooked up comin' back to life!!!!

What Phil said above....

Also..... FYI, they do NOT let just anyone wander through the yard.   AND... the owners (when they are there) / management / staff are a pain in ass to deal with in regards to trying to gain access to the yard.

Oh my gosh. That place is amazing. I wish I lived closer to Arizona I would hop in the car tonight and head that way. I would never be seen again I would just get lost in there LOL

Is There Anything Interesting Left?

When Jay (aka Pumper) and I were there years ago, there were still some vintage things here & there, but I imagine by now all the good stuff is already gone. I remember a cool Hotpoint machine (sans pump) that would have been fun to bring back to life that we didn't get.

I drove by there a couple months back. It is still there. Pretty much the same machines that have been sitting out in the Arizona sun for the past 10 years. Not much good plastic parts left.
As Kevin stated, it is difficult to get to wander around the yard. The owner will be glad to let people look, but he isn't there often. When he is gone its almost always a NO.

This place reminds me of one that was here in Tulsa at one time in the early 70's. That was were I encountered nearly every rare and interesting washer and dryer mentioned in this forum. They did away with all of it before the 80's arrived though.

Something weird about

a place that allows you to look around when there's just ONE man needed to be on the premise...as if he has some all reaching control over all the acreage?

Who IS this guy? :-)

I would love to run into something like an Aberdeen Farm...

I'd give my eyeteeth just to have the opportunity to go through that field. Too bad it is now just that, a field.

I couldn't imagine if there was an Aberdeen Farm FILLED with really old HVAC and, much better yet, really old commercial kitchen and laundry equipment. I'd have to be carted off to a mental institution, cause I'd go crazy. I'd be more giddy than I would winning $500 million in a lottery.

My Midwestern childhood home was not too far from a state highway (it's not what you think, it was really a two lane country road)...up that road, there was an old abandoned homestead with old trucks, farm implements and a couple of appliances. I took an old Kirby and a heavy steel fan blade four feet in diameter, all in a large wheelbarrow also taken from the old homestead. Mom wanted to bring my neck, Dad just shrugged his shoulders.

I live in the PNW and do a lot of hiking and camping in out-of-the-way places. So far, nothing but some old, old cars and trucks, a creepy 1940s fridge or two, and believe it or not, an old IBM PS/2 tower, the really tall, narrow ones from the late '80s or early '90s. How or why that would be laying in the woods, miles from any road, is anyone's guess. I wondered if some evidence to a crime resided on it's hard drive, but it had been there for a while and was no doubt destroyed by the PNW rain.

Chris,

Scroll up thru the thread, I listed the name, address and phone #.

Be aware though that unless the business owner is there, it’s really difficult to get them to allow you to wander around the yard. The manager claims “our insurance does not allow it“ and they can be rather rude about it. Just FYI.
