While looking for something else, I came across this little gadget on eBay.  I thought I'd post it in Shoppers Square  but quickly noticed that there were only about 90 seconds remaining before the auction closed.  There were no bids so I placed one for the minimum and won it.  I don't need another bottle opener (I have a favorite of all time go-to opener already) but for barely over $5 with shipping I thought I'd at least snag it.

So now the question is:  Does this opener belong to a particular Westinghouse appliance, or was it part of a package that was purchased separately?

I don't know if the upper case "N" helps with dating.   I can't remember seeing this particular logo before.

Ice trays came to mind first for me too, which would suggest a possible refrigerator connection.

Not "Big" Enough....

....For "free gift with purchase," where major appliances are concerned. For a refrigerator or range, a set of mixing bowls or one of the Westinghouse water pitchers might be more like it.

I'm thinking this was something like the Frigidaire "Pot Rooster" giveaway, where sales prospects who really listened to the pitch and were judged qualified customers got a trivet tile coated with gen-yoo-wine Frigidaire porcelain enamel. The Pot Rooster was smart-looking, useful, and didn't tend to get tucked in a drawer and forgotten, an attribute the designer of this bottle opener forgot.

Well, since the kitchen here was all 1949 vintage Westinghouse for many years, the opener will feel right at home, even if it's banging around in a drawer with other gadgets.

This is my opener of preference.  It makes all others seem crude and cumbersome:

Instructions for use are tough to read in the picture.  I've since used BKF to remove rust and shine it up and it looks like new.  It has been knocking around in drawers for decades and only about a year ago something caused me to use it and I've been cracking bottles open with it ever since.  The re-sealing function works like a charm.

If anyone ever comes across one of these, grab it and I'll gladly reimburse you for cost and shipping charges.

Side view.  It took a year of searching on eBay to find one of these for my sister, who I knew would appreciate one.  She was thrilled with it and has been showing it off to her friends, who are apparently jealous.  One of the best gifts I've found for her, and for less than $10!
