We moved into a 3 year old house 6 weeks ago. All is well with the home. The previous owner put in $5600.00 worth of new GE Profile appliances from Home Depot after she moved in. She “said the builder grade stuff the builder put in was all junk”.

Anyway the dishwasher may be acting up. When the DW is started it fills and starts to wash. Then this it starts this high pitch whine and sounds like barely any water circulates. It will stop, then start again and repeats these stop and starts 3 or 4 times then drains. Fills up again then runs thru the rest of the cycle as it should. We use the sensor cycle with heat boost during the main wash. This DW has a separate red diverter that pumps water under the silver basket. It cleans very well!!! This thing is loaded with a ton features!!!

Could the sensor cycle cause the DW to stop and start a lot checking the soil level of the water?

There's usually also a Hot Start feature that will do a very brief wash, if it senses the water isn't hot enough. It basically purges the hot water line.

That is normal I am almost sure. The wash pump in that dishwasher is WEAK like all new dishwashers for the most part.If it has Bottle washers and other things it has to pause and send all power to those off and on. These high efficiency dishwashers are like that they have a 50 watt motor so there is not much to work with..

This is normal for GE dishwashers of that design. The first prewash is a “pulse” wash.
It sprays the load alternating levels in short bursts.
Now if the pump is squealing during those pulses, then it might be a bearing issue.

Update

Thanks for all your responses!!! Ran it on the normal wash with heat boost last night after supper.

johnb300m you may have just answered my question. I opened it during the pre-wash. Water was circulating but not as strong as the main wash. It did pulse about 3 or 4 times then drained with the high pitched squeal. It then advanced to the main wash where the water circulation sounded much stronger and the squeal sound went away. It then rinsed and dried without consequence. Either way we’re going to use it till it falls apart unless it starts to drown out the TV. We have an open concept kitchen/den. Also we currently don’t need the expense of a new DW.

Thanks again for all your help!!!

Peace, blessings, and glad tidings to all!!!
