AEG Washers and Dryers

Hey guys,

As some of you may know, both personally and from That Home Site, I recently bought an AEG washer and dryer set for my bedroom. I still have the Bosch washer and dryer downstairs which my mum is free to use once again, however after being moaned at too much for hogging the washing machine (I must be the only teenager acused of doing that!) I saved up and bought an AEG washer and dryer. The washer is an OKO_LAVAMAT 86741 Update 6kg, whilst the dryer is a LAVATHERM 57560 Electronic 6kg.

I'm happy as punch with this set, soem members here already know (in particular Louis, with our webcam sessions - no, no, not like that - it is common practice for him to watch and listen to my washer and dryer on the Yahoo Webcam...). I'm sure I need the men in white coats sooner or later...

Anyway, moving on, I'm very impressed at how quiet the washer and dryer are - the dreyr is about average for noise, but still quiet, bearing in mind it is condenser too. But the quietness of the washer is truly amazing - even on the full speed 1600rpm spin you can whisper over it and still hear yourself!

Washer Light?

Does the light in the washer tub work even when the machine is running?

OK, here am I, exposed as a webcam laundry watcher. I bet we end up in the same mental institution. Well, that's OK, as long as they have a decent laundry room!!! LOL!!! Anyway, thank you Jonathan for the wonderful picture, I like the set stacked.

Interior Light

No, the lights both switch off when the doors to both washer and dryer are closed. However, with the washer, the light also switches off automatically after 3 minutes if you happen to leave the door open.

If you want a "webcam session", then if you have yahoo messenger, send me an email and I'll tell you my ID. Then you'll also be able to watch "Lavamat Live!". That is, if you also do not want to be taken into the insitution along with Louis and myself! BTW, I do a wash almost every day, so it's very likely that you'll see my washer on the webcam, although we will have to bear the time difference in mind, hehe.

I like em!

The more i see the choices of front loaders here in the states,the more i am liking them.You have a very nice set.
This is to Louis,..who by reading his posts is a very big Miele fan.I went to one of our appliance stores today to see what new washers might be out. Well,let me say i very much like the new Miele washers with the honeycomb pattern washtub.They have a small footprint but an extra large washbasket.Very sleek and well made.The model i saw was all stainless,with the dryers stacked on top.
I definitely think they are worth the price you have to pay to get that kind of quality.
Sorry i did not get the model number.I don't know why they keep the Miele washer doors locked in the stores i have went to.Pressing the door button never opens the door on these machines in my experience.Asking a sales person would only invite trouble LOL.

Locked Doors

I too dislike how you cant open the Miele doors on showroom floors. Being able so see inside and open the door really gives you a feel for the quality!

I have noticed in many stores that Asko has a little clip that keeps its doors from being locked and can be looked at by the public in stores.

In Australia you can go into any Harvey Norman or Megamart store and find these washing machines. But they are not sold by the retailer, the machines are sold by Miele themselves and pay the retailer for the floorspace.

Yes, opening the doors is the thing to experience the quality of the Miele's. Compare that to an Asko and you know the difference. Overhere in the stores some of the washers are connected to power so you can open the door. BTW there is a doorlatch behind the lint trap door, but you need a special attachment for opening that door. That attachment might be in or under the detergent drawer. But by the time you have opened the lint trap door there is probably standing a salesman behind you LOL.

The stainless steel ones do indeed look very sleek. We don't get them here, just as we don't get the 6kg models. There is one downside to European dryers, their drums are too small. This is due to the standard footprint of all the European appliances. There are rumours there is going to be a 8kg model brought on the market in the US, I can't wait to see them.

Although I'm a big Miele fan, I also have a weak spot for AEG. I think Jonathan has a very nice set. And I love playing with my AEG's!

Locked Doors

In the appliance store I work in, we like to keep the doors on the Miele washers slightly ajar, rather than close them fully, so that customers can see the drums, aswell as compare between Miele's micro-hole drum and Miele's honeycomb drum. The way the door doesnt actually open without power is a sign of quality - only premium washers have the electronic door opening. BTW my AEG has a similar system, however instead of a lever to pull behind the filter door, theres a button that you twist with a coin to bypass the electronic door lock, and as a result pops open the door.

BTW the electronic door release on my AEG is quite powerful - it springs the door out a good 15cm (6") or so from the cabinet, other machines with door release buttons that I use just unlatch the door.

I have a question to make about the institution... would I be able to bring my AEG's along with me??? Lol...

New Miele/Bedroom washing

I too heard the rumors about Miele coming out with a larger version of their machines for the American market but when I asked the local Miele dealer, they said they hadn't heard that and insisted on dragging that mile-long towel out of the standard machine to prove it's washing capacity... I love that store and I want a Miele dishwasher - bad!

I always wanted a washer/dryer in my bedoom, for a while I wanted a Skinni-Mini in the closet and later I had my heart set on a Whirlpool set - out of the closet - with the paneling fronts and two-way opening dryer door. You are so lucky to have these in your room - how fun!

Wow, so Miele actually still makes an IRONER!
