All New Kenmore's for 1976

I have top say, I miss the days when colors were only 10 dollars more. Although, wasn't this the beginning of the all plastic consoles?

I was about to guess that those are mid-70s models, based on the graphics of the "program" settings, then I noticed the sale date note at the top of the ad. The plastic panels began in the U.S. in 1972 models and were eventually available as BOL machines, up to most 60-series models. There was even one 1976 "alphabet" washer as they're referred to here. The plastic panels lasted in one form or another until a few years ago in DD form.

There are some pretty interesting differences between the Canadian Kenmores and the U.S. counterparts, and I have never seen those centerdial plastic panels here. Very interesting, thanks for sharing!

In the Canadian Kenmore models - there were mainly 3 types of agitators - Straight Vane, Super Roto-Swirl and late 70's the Dual Action Agitator. When I was younger, I was amazed seeing all those many different types of agitators in the US Sears Store - penta swirl, adjustable vane, etc.....here in Canada we were stuck with only the three!

There were also a few differences between the US and the Canadian Kenmore's - besides the console, the front base kick panel was different and the tub ring style was a slightly different.

Yes, that may have been the beginning of all-plastic consoles for Kenmore. Often, the lettering and designs would quickly wear away.

And the Canadian dryers did not have the hamper doors. even in the 80's and 90's. Only in the last few years, we've seen more of them. But still mostly side swing doors.

Third Generation washer

A picture of my aunt's early 70s Kenmore. I took this picture the last time I was sneeking around her house.
It is a time warp from the 70's. She said the washer is acting funny and dosen't advance anymore thru the wash cycle.She has to stand beside it thru the whole wash.
Knowing her, this washer will still be there 10 years from now.She never throws anything out.

I love the funky look to the console, and the white Rotoswirl is a beauty.

That machine is fascinating. Subtle differences, yet still all Whirlpool/Kenmore. I love the pale gray porcelain. I used to think that was Brazilian, but maybe not!

Interesting the use of U.S. style knobs, but with the temp and water level controls inverted from usual convention.
