My Oatey laundry box was installed in 1992 and has the "old fashioned" gate valve shut-offs.
Because I have braided stainless hoses connecting the faucets to my washer, I never have turned off the valves.
Consequently, the valves are "corroded" in an open position and, in my experience, gate valves will fail to stop the water flow when closed when they are old like these are.
I will soon have to replace my 1987 Kenmore washer with new machine and the only way I'll be able to turn off the water to the machine is to turn off the whole house water supply.
To replace the faucets will entail opening up the wall to unsolder the connections to the copper pipes and I don't want to go there.
I am thinking that maybe I can just buy two hose shut-offs (like those used for outdoor garden hoses), screw them on to the existing laundry faucets, and then I'll have two new shut-offs.
I would need to find brass shut-offs that can withstand hot water.
Has anyone done something like this with their washing machine setups?
I know a lot of you have multiple machines that are all connected to water etc.
Do you have a shut-off valve that screws on to a hose bib that you'd recommend?
Thanks for the help!
