Ok, i am a little out there some times, but i really want an amanatag set to have, so i bid on these, even if they are duds.. The owner states they where replaced because they where noisy and in rental units??? Huh.. Am bidding $30 on them, maybe up to $50 and will transport them home my self
The dryer is similar to my old maytag i had (norage desighn if i recall right) so its worth that.. The washer, well its a toss up..

Amanatag!!!

What on earth would you want one of those awful sets from Maytag's darkest days for. I'd take just about anything, even a modern BOL Frigidaire over those Amanatags.

My Amanatag

This is not like my Amanatag, but based upon my personal experience I can only say one thing...
DANGER Will Robinson DANGER DANGER!!! (Arms flailing wildly) STOP!!!
Amanatags are a dangerous breed. They are none too reliable, don't clean too well, tend to flood peoples houses, and are a ROYAL B!@#h to work on.
Please, get something better!

Ducks and covers,
Dave

It does look like those are Amanas not Amanatags. I'd still give them a miss though.

These are definitely just Amanas before the Maytag takeover. I would not buy these machines. If the washer is noisey, I'd think main seal & bearing, & $$. Correct me if I'm wrong, but aren't the new SQ machines based on these pieces o' junk?? They were from the same company at this time & the new SQ's look very similar to these. I wonder how they'll hold up down the line since these machines here were prone to leak whatever fluid they had (mainly oil & water).

You know, runematic, I'm scared to call you right, but it seems everything new SP is EXACTLY similar to rp2813 old Amana's. (Cringes)

I know.. I know... But i want them anyway.. More so i want the dryer, not the washer. The washer will probably get donated to the paws for a casue thrift store. Sigh... Who knows..

For some bizzare reason i thought the amannas like this where norgetags... Any way, i like the dryers..

Yep thats similar to the amana we had ours was old enough to have the porcelain steel outer tub, was s/s inside, main seal leaked, i was quoted approx $300 to fix mostly labor, we tossed ours to the curb. The one we had was TOL, it lasted 7 years to the day from date of purchase. Im still sour about the whole thing. Hope others have good luck with these. I would not have one of them again. alr2903

Someone in my extended family has an AMANA washer (bought after Maytag owned them) similar to the model in this picture, and it has been a workhorse of a machine, they have had the machine a few years now with no problems. It is used for a family of 5 adults. It replaced a Speed Queen that was 22 years old, and from all indications, it looks almost exactly like the current Speed Queen models out (even the agitator is the same). It even has the 710 spin speed. So far it they are very pleased with it.

Actually

the serial tag says Raytheon so it was even before the first buyout.. they were bought by Goodman and then bought by Maytag so all in allthis is a Speed Queen design..it could be worse..

I bought a set of these in 1998. Mine were MOL or a notch above. The washer had to have the tub seal replaced twice during its first year, and during the second service visit they noticed that the water pump was cracked. After about two years the tub began to index slightly (1/4" at a time), accompanied by a soft knocking sound each time the agitator changed direction. Such good quality.

The dryer never needed a repair, but it had some issues. It was prone to melting grill marks from the heating element cover into certain synthetic items, like track pants. The inside of the door was plastic and, in addition to attracting much lint and pet hair, occasionally tried to zap me if I stood to close to it while unloading the dryer. Not very nice. Oh, and when a cycle was completed, depending on which heat setting was selected and which cycle was used, the timer knob would continue to tick away and advance clear through the following cycle. It was strange, but mostly annoying. The pair and me parted company after three cold and distant years.

My parents bought a set in either 1999 or 2000, whichever year Amana changed the washer timer from clicking to turning smoothly (and it could be turned clockwise and counter-clockwise). They bought near TOL models; theirs have rotary controls and I think the TOL models at the time had electronic controls. The set is in a part-time home where my parents spend about one-third of their time, so it gets used somewhat less than average machines. After at least seven years, though, neither machine has had a problem. My mom would like to replace the set with front loaders, so she checks under the washer for leaks from time to time. Hoping.

My Amana dryer went through four lint screen assemblies in 9 years. Not just the screen, the whole housing, but the screens themselves fell apart as well and started to allow the ductwork to clog. When I unloaded the dryer along with the washer, the lint screen assembly that was in it was beginning to warp and crack. Really a horribly designed machine and if you've got enough problems in your life, you don't need to add this one Sploder.

Its just a play toy.. I will probably just keep the dryer and dump the washer.. But then again i never can find any decnet washers here...

I want it so bad....
