Has anyone been to Ollie's Recently?

I'm going to be very, close to many in a few days, and would like to know, if they still have tons & tons of Tide Powder on hand.

I'd don't care if it's french or spanish labeled. I just want to find myself some of the original scent, with the cleaning power I'm used to. I might even grab 2-3 boxes, to tide me over until I can find something more tolerable, probably persil.

Anyhow. Has anyone been to Ollies more recently, what's the inventory like?

Was there about ten days ago...

Their focus was on Tide PODS, but there was a number of boxes of powder in stock and apparently still arriving, but not the huge supply of earlier. I'm not sure how much basic Tide there was though, as much of it was w/bleach, for Coldwater, with Febreze, etc.

Do you have Bi-Lo grocery stores there? Mine carries two sizes of basic Tide powder, the larger of the two available in Mountain Spring and Original scent.

I would be glad to pick something up for you if you want it shipped to you!

I used to live very close to a Bi-Lo

In fact, my mom, used to do all of our grocery shopping their when I was younger, atleast until, a Lowes Foods opened up a bit closer.

That store though, closed years ago, and It's been a very long time since I've been in Bi-Lo since.

Tide for Cold Water? Does it smell any bit close to Regular Tide Powder. Also, would you happen to know if it's a HE Forumla?

I think I remember the Original Tide + Bleach having suds supressors, so I could use that, if needed. I know it's not HE, but, the suds weren't out of control either.

Tide bleach + Sud suppressors

Mich,

Is that the Original Non HE Tide with Bleach powder you're referring to? Would that also cover Vivid White Tide?

I have a huge box of Tide Bleach (or Vivid White) powder, but I am frightened of using it in my LG FL Steam washer as it's not HE.

It was bought from Walmart around Feb/March time this year if that helps?

Thank you

Yeah..

Pretty much, all versions of Tide with Bleach (including the vivid white line) contain sud suppression agents in the form of silicone. Of course, the HE labeled versions have slightly more stronger amounts, but they both do practically the same thing.

I'd start off with Line 1 (if you have soft water) or Line 2 if you have hard water. Whatever you do, don't use a full scoop or line 3. If you have soft water like I do, you'll probably see a small amount of little bubbles running down the top of the door, as the clothes tumble, but that's about it. There won't be a whole gallon of froth in your machine.

Also - Worth Noting. The Dirtier your clothes are, the less you'll see the suds (or surfactants). So if you're really worried, you could just do a full load of heavily soiled t-shirts and white socks.

I was there last night...

No P&G Acres in sight, unless you wanted the darn liquid. Eh.

As it turns out, people of Charlotte, really love Powder Detergent. As the Ollies, I went to, actually sells more Powder detergent than Liquid.. (according to a manager, when I asked, if he could check for more boxes in the back)

There was actually a decent selection of Tide + Febreze Powder & Tide Coldwater (eau froide) powder boxes, but that's about it. I did *see* Tide W/ Bleach, as well, but, only a few boxes.

As luck would turn though.... I found a box, of the Tide I was looking for, the exact scent and older (non act-lift crystals) box, at Target, on sale for $9.99. It was hiding behind boxes of Gain, all alone, and I found it.

:-)

I'm Happy now :)

ollies

I went to ollies in Steubenville ohio a few days ago, I was disappointed at the prices of the tide. there was a good selection but it was no cheaper than walmart or family dollar.

Thanks

Thanks Mich :)

Do these sud suppressors appear anywhere else in the Non HE Tide line? Whether it be powder or liquid.

Thanks again

Liam

It's been a while, since I've really looked.

But, IRRC, All Tide Liquids, not labeled HE, do or shouldn't contain suds suppressors.

As for Tide Powder. I think, almost all the "Ultra" Powder variations contain, suds suppressors, including Original Tide. The Tide HE variations, however, should contain a another special ingredient, that helps to capture dirt better *usually borax* but since, Tide Powder contains Soda Ash, or Sodium Carbonate, it's not really needed.

If in some miracle time wrap store, you find, non-ultra Tide Powder. The product should not contain suds suppressors, and will make lots of froth.

Keep in mind, you should always try to use HE labeled detergents, however, with careful dosing, you can normally get away with using them, if careful. I'll have to post more about the Tide & P&G powder line later.

Thank you

Thank you very much Mich.

It's just that I have in my stash

Non HE Powder:

Bleach, Original, Mountain Fresh (they're all huge boxes).

Liquid:

X2 Bottles Coldwater.

I also have Cheer with Fabreze Liquid x2 and Gain original - huge box (again all non HE).

I don't want to waste them, I do have 2 TL machines, however, it really is not practical to have them in use at the moment (on a water meter, which is not the norm here) so pay for water as used (of course ;P) whereas here, normally we pay a set fee depending on rateable value of the property - regardless of usage.

And considering, we have some of the highest utility costs around, can't really afford to have it as a main washer - even just to work through the Non HE stash.

When I was writing that..

I meant to say, don't, or shouldn't, when talking about the liquids. Goodness, I've got to learn to proofread.

That Coldwater Liquid, when I used the HE bottle, is suds city, I can't even imagine the suds from the non-he. If you can't use it up, you may wanna consider, donating it, or giving it away to friends or family.

But... if you really wanna try it, try using two tablespoons of it, in your front loader. That should be about the right dosing amount, and you might be able to get away with it, without all the froth.

Anyhow, Powder. You really are probably fine with those. I know they contain oxygen bleach, so your machine won't get a weird smell. They don't necessarily contain as much suds suppressing agents as there HE versions, but they do contain them, and you'll probably be fine.

Of Course, YMMY. So, start off small with dosing, and see how it goes.

I happened to be in PA a few days ago and stopped into an Ollie's store.

They had Tide powdered detergents, I picked up three boxes of 22 load size Ultra Tide with Downy April Fresh for $3.99 each. They had larger load sizes as well and HE versions. Also, Ace with Bleach and Cold Water but I didn't care for their scent.

Afterward, I went to BIg Lots, what waste of time. They are obviously going after the Dollar store market, dumping the name brand merchandise and close outs for discount generic junk.

Tide "original" with 'acti-lift'

I bought something called "Tide Original with Acti-lift" liquid. It is not HE. Can anyone tell me what 'acti-lift' means? I have been using it in my wringer washer and I really like it a lot. It is pretty sudzy, though, I probably just need to use less.

I'm going to check our Ollie's tomorrow. Just dying to get my hands on some powder.

Actlift...

Is a special Tide formula, specially designed to leave trace amounts of a surfactant rubbing alcohol blend in your clothing. It's actually been migrated into all the tide liquid offerings (besides "With Febreze") since early 2010.

Anyhow, the idea is, if you get a greasy stain on your clothing. It doesn't have the opportunity to dry in as well, as the actilift ingredients, help to begin breaking it up, before the garment is even washed. Only problem with it, is the ingredients seem to only work well on Cotton, not holding onto Linen & Polyester Fibers.

Here is a demo of it though :)

Acti-Lift

Problem with that formula is benefits only kick in fully after several repeated launderings. One likes to switch detergents especially from gels/liquids to powders so not sure about using one formula exclusively.

The only Acti-lift detergent in our stash is Ariel "Alpine-Fresh" from France. Not sure if one can obtain more in near future and don't like Tide liquid's scents.
