Anyone got a spare?

Anyone got a spare transmission for a large capacity GE filter-flo? If not, anyone got a better idea? While agitating, the tub moves and bangs around constantly, it seems to be affecting the stroke of the agitator too, the stroke gets shorter or longer and this is obviously hard on the machine as it seems to be trying really hard to get itself to move... Maybe it's not worth saving?

This is not a tranny problem but rather the brake that holds the basket in place during agitation. I'm just not sure why it's not engaging.

If indeed it is the brake, It is a transmission problem because the brake is inside the transmission case. There is a chance it is repairable but not likely. If the brake lining has worn away then a new lining might work. If the detent that holds the brake has broken or is stuck, this also may be repairable. Problem is this would be quite involved for a novice. Plus I am not sure one can buy the parts separately. One should be sure it is the trans by removing the abitator to see if something weird is happening like the tub bolts are loose or other such weirdness.

You're about a month late. I scrapped one that ran quiet,but had rustholes in the outer tub. :^(

Some appliance stores will sell you a rebuilt GE transmission, and you get a rebate when you return the bad one to them. Call around and find out. A rebuilt tranny was costing me about $90 with turning the bad on in.

Replacing the tranny is a cake walk in these machines.

I just tried to get a customer of mine a rebuilt tranny & AP Wagner told me that the company that was rebuilding them went belly-up. I'm not sure if there is another company around or not.
