Sometimes you can't win. A few years back the copper drain lines from my kitchen sink rotted out. I was unaware of it for some time but the end result is the leaked ruined my basement ceiling and close to $2000 in AV equipment that was sitting pretty much directly under the leak. Insurance paid for the equipment and to put an entire new ceiling in the basement because the ceiling panels could no longer be matched.
A few electrical type things were acting up today, don't know why, but the result was I wandered to the other side of the basement, I rarely go over there anymore, and I herd DRIP, DRIP, SPLASH, DRIP. I go over there and the floor is under water and water is almost pouring out of the ceiling! I have an oriental rug on the floor and the corner section of it was soaked as well as one of my HDTVs and some audio equipment. The water appeared to run down the front of the TV that sits on shelf like top on my stand over my audio equipment so it looks like most of the water missed the equipment. I'll give it a few days to dry out and see.
All the plumbing was replaced a few years back with PVC, there is no way that's going to fail. I looked under the kitchen sink and the ONE piece of brass pipe, it runs from the left hand bowl to the drain line that the garbage disposer is connected to, and while the pipe is fine, the nut that attached the drain line to the sink strainer rotted out! The pipe was hanging down about 1/2" and while some of the water made it into the drain line, most did not.
Luckily when the first leak happened it was when my dad was having lots of problems so I never got around to replacing the ceiling in the basement, so the panels were out and not fresh new panels. I guess that is one good thing... I hope the TV and audio equipment is OK, hate to have to file another insurance claim on stuff they just replaced a few years back.
