Well, I finally got my scanner up and running. Driver is corrupted so I don't know how long but here's the first brochure, appropriately, the oldest Maytag Home Laundry Brochure that I've been able to dig out of my collection. These are, I believe, from one of the last runs of center-dial models:

D808 interior drum light

According to this, my dryer should have a drum light?? I want to know where I would find it because I've looked and don't see anything.....Then again, we didn't know the back panel lit up because the bulb was burned out. It wasn't until I joined this group that I found out it should light up (THANKS SO MUCH!!) Anyone want to give me a clue about where to look for the drum light? Is it painfully obvious? *is afraid it might be*

I think the drum light for your 808 is at about the 1 or 2 o'clock position on the front side of the drum. I think it's covered by a little oval lense with at least one phillips
head screw. IIRC that's how my "next generation" Maytag
(non-center dial) Gas Dryer is. It appears to have the same
"business" innards as yours.
Let there be light!!!!

a mechanical oddity of sorts..

Thanks, frontal, for telling me where to look, you were right. On mine there was a flat plastic cover with a hex screw. I took a picture (I apologize for the quality, it's not easy taking a photo of what is behind you when you stick your head inside a dryer, lol). My new problem is I don't know how the heck to get the old light bulb out...I hope one can see what I mean by my photo. Methinks there is more to this than just unscrewing a little plastic shield.

found instructions to post my pic

I sincerely apologize if this doesn't work for some reason. I'll give it one last shot, I don't want to take up the whole thread just over one photo. *crosses fingers*

Okay, I know it works now....can someone tell me how to get that GIANT lighbulb out of that not so giant hole?
*behave yourselves, boys*

Remove the front panel. Two screws on the bottom and pull out from bottom until free. Unplug the machine first of course.

Maytag Forever!

It makes me want to cry when new 21st Century machines cannot even compare to the "old" Maytags.
