Name that show

Hi Nathan,
The name of the show is 20-1 and it counts down the top 20 commercials in Australia over a number of years.
You are quite correct they do show Dame Edna doing a Whirlpool commercial it starts with Edna showing off her Whirlpool No-Frost refrigerator and then moves to her walking through a showroom which is full of Malleys Whirlpool appliances singing a song.
I think I see a little Twin-Tub in front with her, funny I don't recall Malleys ever making a Whirlpool Twin-Tub although I could very well be wrong.
Do you remember some of the old appliance and soap powder commercials down here?,here are some that I remember:
1.The Fab Lady, who whenever she extolled the virtues of Lemon Fab, the box of Fab she was carrying in her shopping would shake and shake and finally explode in a sea of lemons.
2.The Ajax Lady and her husband who chortled about Ajax soap powder and it's "blue beads of bleach" which could shift any stain and at the end the husband proclaimed he was foreman material in his dazzling white overalls.
3.The Dynamo liquid man,who poured red wine onto his victim's blouse and when she recoiled in horror, assured her that just by pouring a little Dynamo on the stain and rubbing it in and then into the wash would easily remove it.
This ad was sooooo cheesy I deliberately refused to buy the damn stuff!!.
4.Liquid Aura which told you all about the wonderful benefits of using liquid Aura like only 1/4 cup!! for a full load and no pre-dissolving powder and of course!... dazzling whites and sparkling colours in hot or cold water.
I am pretty sure that Aura was actually the first liquid here in Australia although again I could be wrong.
I am getting a headache! I will go and have a couple of Nurofen and a cup of tea and try to think of some more.
Cheers.
Steve.

More Aussie Ads.

Over the headache now and am able to remember some more vintage Aussie ads from my youth:
5.Dick Emery for Kelvinator-former British comedian Dick Emery was a spokesman for Kelvinator appliances for a time,I remember an ad for the no-frost fridges when he was dressed up in his priest's attire when the lady in the ad asked him if there was a model for her and Dick showing fake buckteeth gave her the jingle which was ''Kelvinator has something for everyone", my child.
6.Simpson Delta 10 medium capacity washer- Poor Mum is pulling her hair out over husband's dirty overalls and kids playing in mud she puts all dirty washing into the Delta 10 and the voice-over tells her not to worry as "It all comes out in the wash with the Delta 10 and it's wonderful 4-vane agitator action" the wash is of course spotless when she takes it out but to her horror the kids are getting the other clothes they are wearing covered in mud again!!!! when the jingle comes on '"You can relax when it's Simpson."
7.Fiesta powder bleach- A scary voice-over tells you that not even hot water and the strongest detergent will kill bacteria and germs in the wash and of course shows you a slide full of bacteria taken off a sample of washing water, so you Must use Fiesta in with your detergent to kill germs and disinfect your clothes and your washer and Fiesta also gives your detergent boosted cleaning power!!! so use Fiesta for total confidence!!
The reason I remember so mant of these as as well as being a bit of a geek, in my younger days when I worked for Woolworths, the household cleaning aisle was my aisle I was responsible for, so you see I was constantly surrounded by these products.
Come on all you other Aussies who contribute here, share your memories of various product commercials you remember (pleeease, just so I don't feel so old at age 42.)

Even more Aussie ads!!!!!

Okay! it's time to try some more old Aussie ads.
8.R.M.Gow's laundry powder-This was probably the most boring commercial ever!! all it consisted of was a box of powder sitting all by it's lonesome with a voiceover telling you what good value it was and how it works without fuss,to those who may not know the product's full name was"R.M.Gow's Laundry detergent, powerful, hardworking washing powder that gives you real value for money.".I think it is now owned by Colgate-Palmolive who changed the name to just Gow's.
9.Philips "Gentle Care" range of washers in about the early to mid 1980's,Philips launched a range of washers here called the Gentle Care range which consisted of a front loader,2 top loaders and a twin-tub the ad showed a hand dropping a moistened hand towelette i.e. Wet Ones or something like that into each washer and after the end of a normal wash cycle the towelette was taken out and had no damage to it or fraying or the like this was done to prove the gentleness of the washers I don;t know how true the test was but I tell you they were a pretty good looking washer anyway, and at the end you of course got the slogan,"Philips want you to have the very best there is."
It's a pity we don't have a museum or such dedicated to memories like this you know because I might loan myself to them for an exhibition. L.O.L.!L.O.L.!L.O.L.!!
Cheers Folks.
Steve.

And still more!!!!

Okay here we go again guys!!
10.The original Cold Power ad-started off almost like Hawaii-Five-0 with a tidal wave coming into your screen with a voice-over telling you how Cold Power is the cold water specialist and nothing else comes close in cold water.
11.Vincent Price for Hitachi-Who else remembers this one? the master of horror himself Vincent Price telling us all bout the wonderful world of Hitachi products e.g. washers vacuums fridges and the rest and finishing by telling us all that at" Hitachi,Quality is no compromise."(that is almost a shot at Miele don't you think.).
12.Rinso-Shows a lady doing her wash and admiring the mountain of suds and I mean mountain! in her washer(I bet the poor washer suffocated later.)with a voice-over saying how Rinso's richer suds clean more deeply than any other soap powder and when she is hanging it out the voice-over tells us that "Rinso white is the whiteness which shows"
I think after that sea of suds her washer should move out and find another home L.O.L. L.O.L. L.O.L.!!!!!!!
Now that is it friends my memory banks are exhausted so I hope you find these flashbacks interesting.
Cheers friends.
Off to lunch now with some dear friends.
