Second thought process....On the 20 yr old frigidaire

Yes, I spoke out of haste...had second thoughts about it being stored and not found in a shipping box...hidden for someone's delight...so we will re-consider...thanks for the advice....Just always wanted a frigidaire washer someday...someday, when blue birds fly OVER the rainbow....will wait till something else appears for sale.....great advice!!!!!

I am going to be in that areea tomorrow and will see if I can gt a look at it and maybe some interior and mechanical shots.

Is this the best example, mechanically of the 1-18's? Is this the model we should all long for or was it the earlier machines?

I, for one would not want to spend that much on a madhine but if the price somehow became right, maybe I would grab it, but it would not sit unused.. It would be the secondary daily driver. If it cleans as well as some people claim, it might replace the Duet. Too bad it doenst have the Rapid dry feature but I am sure it does a decent water extraction, Is it acceptable or do the clothes come out wet?

This is one of the ones that people look for alot.  The mechanism is similar to a 1-18 but not quite the same as the 1-18 is belt driven.  It absolutely cleans and rinses very well, provided that it has been loaded in the proper manner, Frigidaires load differently than other top load washers do.  The spin is 710 rpm and with the solid tub this provides a very acceptable water extraction.  Frigidaires were noted to extract more water than other machines and in most cases had superior spin speeds.

This is not a 1-18.

None of the parts fit from this machine to a 1-18.

These were good machines, they have a dead zone above the top Cone, which was addressed and fixed in the 1-18 machines.

It is the last solid tub machine from F.

This is not the TOL model by any standard.

These machines are prone to motor failure due to the early clutching mechanism.

This being a 1966? model IT is on the CUSP,  one would have to look closely at the serial number to determine if this machine had the factory 'Sure-Spin" clutch upgrade installed!

If not then have him spin it dry and see if it blows a fuse, or <span style="text-decoration: underline;">better</span> spin it with a full tub of water and see if it blows a fuse. Also be sure to unplug the machine and feel the plug prongs, if they are at all warm then you are close to motor failure with this machine.

 

My 2 cents $200 is very fair price for this machine.
 
SLOLID TUB FRIGIDARE ROLLERMATIC WASHER

This one is new enough to have the improved clutch, the VD in the serial # tells us this. As Jon stated this is not the same as a !-18, For the 1-18 the entire mechanism was beefed up compared to the original rollermatics. Checking the prongs on the plug for heat is not a fair way to test for motor problems there far too many variables for this test to have any validly. I have never seen a bad motor in a solid tub frigidare rollermatic washer I don't think this was one of the major weak points. I would have to examine the machine to even begin to estimate the value of it. I could be well worth $500 or be worth less than $100.

Well, I got to meet Dale and sAw the machine in person today. It is in fantastic shape and is clean as a whistle especially underneath the machine. Nor heavy rust and no leaks from anywhere. The tub bolts have alomst no visible rust or corrosion and except for buildup of maybe fabric softenerin the cone under the agitator cap, there is not sediment or lime buildup anywhere,

It sure is funny how small a 12 lb basket looks compared to the top loaders today!
He said it does spin the clothes nearly dry.
He offered to connect it outside the garage but I did not have time today.

He knows he is asking alot for it but he feels like it is like a good old car and that it has appreciated in value since it was new. I think he will take less for it as time goes on and I explained that there may be many collectors out there but none close enough to spend 500 bucks and then have to get it or ship it.

I would like it myself, but not for that amount but I would definitley use it more than store it as a showpiece at least until I can judge if it cleans better than what we use now.
I took some pics with my phone camera so the quality isn't the greatest. But I think you will see how clean it is. Sorry if some of the boittom shots are at weird angles. This is the first time I got this close to this kind of washer.

There is absolutely no rust or even dust under the machine. I really wish I had the time to see and hear it run but had to get back to work.
This is the only blemish on the machine and a little bit less on the opposite side of the control panel. Cam from boxes stored on top of the unit.

Make and offer and if you get it, have Dale the owner hold it til the spring and see if Eddie, toploader55 can pick it up and meet you on his way back from his yearly trip to Florida!

I might be able to get a truck and get it to my house and he can get it when he stops by me too.
 
What a

perfectly beautiful washing machine, and the shots are wonderful. It is just begging to belong to Aworg, like a gorgeous white short-haired puppy in the window.

I'm glad you guys

are going to work on getting this machine.  A few words of advice on it.  I would remove the top and clean around the ring of the outer tub because that area gets dirty sometimes and can't be seen without taking the top off.  Those rubbed areas on top of the control panel can be easily touched up using a white paint marker.  Hope this will be helpful to you all.

Machine has gone up in value! I can see either it was a lo-use machine or a non stressed machine! There are no scuffing or rub marks on the spin and agitate rollers from the urethane inter-rollers!

 

If this had been overloaded or stressed you would see burn marks on the aluminum rollers.

 

Add $200 bucks to my estimate!

Mint Frigidaire

I bought that machine yesterday for the 500 and am sending Microship to go get it for me.I talked to Dale and it is a once a week machine until 1989 by his grandmother.

I am sure glad that someone in the group got this machine.  I would have liked to have it, but truthfully, it wouldn't have been connected fulltime and that would have been a waste.

 

I sure hope you can take some high-def videos of this machine and archive to Youtube.

 

I have thought about putting together a dvd of my SQ machines and uploading the iso image to a file sharing site so anyone could download and burn their own copy.

1967 FRIGIDARE WASHER

Congratulations Mark you should enjoy this washer and from what I can tell it is a very fair price to pay for this machine. There may not be another machine in this good a condition anywhere and you can't put a price on something like this.
 
congrats!

as my name says i love rollermatics! have rebuilt 3, working on #4 this year. your's looks like it won't need much attention at all. water bellows are still available and oil too if you ever need them, although only one of the 4 i have torn down have needed a new bellows. they will hold up fine if no pins or nails etc. get into them. and tub seals seem to last forever too (at least on mine) cause on a rollermatic the water level never gets high enough in the outer tub to cover the main tub seal anyway. so they are not subject to the extent of corrosion and wear that a 1-18 or other perforated tub seal would endure on a constant basis.

This will be the 2nd piece in my new collection along with my 49 Bendix which I found here which is coming along I hope to have pics of that soon.I will be cherishing this machine for many years to come.When it is finished the Frigidaire will go in the washer room in my new house patterned after the ones of club members I have envied here.When I began servicing washers over 30 years ago I used too see 6 of these a week,they were everywhere but I never saw one that looks or works like this one.I used to take them home and play with them but everyone I got was making all kinds of noise.For now I will only use it to watch it run it wont be a daily driver I have my Maytag Ineptune for that.(Paid 50 bucks for that brand new 10 years ago at a warehouse wasnt supposed to work but did)Also its a good thing I still have my 2 frigidaire repairmaster books I got when I was 14 in 1976.One cold Sunday afternoon next fall when the patriots are losing a game I will turn off the 35 Mitsubishi console tube tv I am watching (whole other subject and website dont get me started) and watch this washer run instead.The only real problem I may have then is I will have to change my user name to RollermaticMark.
