If this is redundant please forgive me. For those of you who use a current speed queen top load washer. What are some good detergents that are low sudsing and clean rinsing ? I know Sears is pretty good but what others ?

I am currently using Tide original powder but after this box is used up I need to get something low sudsing.I did the Sears ultra bit a couple of times but want something diffferent.

What do you folks use ?

How is Persil ? Is it a high sudser ? I may give it a try when I get a chance if it rinses cleaner. Don't want to keep using two rinses on my machine.

Thanks! I see Persil in our local supermarket. Will give it a try.

One more thing. Are the dosing directions vague ? These laundry detergents are geared more towards the HE washers. In any case I will just check it out the next time I am in the store.

Tide and Persil are my go to in my SQ. No issues with sudsing for either detergent. The hardness of our water is around 8 GPG. I normally dose per instructions but sometimes go a little more or less depending on what I'm washing.

Just went and picked up a jug of Persil 2in1. Doing a large mixed load of jeans with a couple of shirts. I used 3/4 cap and it made a layer of suds. Not as much as Tide but we will see. Waiting for the rinse cycle now.

Hi Patrick,
I called Speed Queen on this issue when I first got my machine as I was reading differing opinions on this board and they said to use any soap I wanted but to "use only a drizzle" to keep sudsing down. I've cut dosage, without compromising cleaning depending on the detergent.

Cheer and Wisk were the worst, had to rinse towels 3 times to get it all out. Cheer also dulled the stainless steel tub and had to manually scrub to bring back the luster. Quit using that in a hurry.
Sam's Club Wind Fresh cleans well, but does suds up. I have a lot left over and use it only on my Dad's clothes.

*Woolite is very good, cleans well, doesn't suds up and rinses out on one rinse, smells nice but it's expensive.

*All Free & Clear is what I'm using now and it seems to rinse out pretty good, cleaning is so-so, certainly not the best I've used, so I pretreat. I'm not breaking out (but I've noticed that my whites are starting to turn yellow though).
It has a chemical smell that can linger if a lot is used. (Am experiencing some skin reactions to some detergents since I've gotten older, Dr. recommended this brand!)

HEB grocery store, in our neck of the woods, sells their brand "Bravo" and its good, cleans well, formulated for hard water, but rinsing is moderate. But I haven't used it in a long time and afraid of skin irritations, but may give it another try.

I ruined a washer using Sears Ultra Plus, had a horrible scale build-up that I couldn't get removed, even using Lime-Away. It was all over the tub. I suspect the hard water, and combination of that detergent was the cause.

I looked into buying Rosalie's Zero Suds Detergent, but I think it would be hugely expensive for the Queen, as doseage would have to increase to compensate for the water. Anyone's thoughts on this?

As I mentioned in another thread last month, illness in our house as necessitated a ton of laundry this summer. Our water bill went from around $25.00/month to $54/month when my Dad's treatments started, so yes, cutting out that 2nd rinse is high on my priority list. Very much so!!

I'll be watching this thread closely. Hope all owners of SQ will write their observations. Sorry for such a lengthy post.

Thanks,
Barry

I was going to suggest Rosalie's Zero Suds -- if you can afford it.  Another thing you can try is adding some borax.  I've noticed it helps reduce suds.

I don't own a SQ, but I did own basically the same machine in a 1997 Raytheon Amana disguise.  It was indeed horrible at rinsing.  Towels were the worst.  Manually running third and fourth rinses still rendered plenty of suds, and I was conservative with my dosing.  I gave up.

I've owned a front-load machine since offloading the Amana in 2007.  When P&G changed their powdered Tide and Gain formulas to "for both" HE and regular machines, I started getting suds issues.  Their liquids were better, but I recently went for Tide in the yellow bottle and it created way too much suds.  I would steer clear of any P&G products in any form.  I also tried Hero detergent and it was ridiculously sudsy.  Both the Tide and Hero have been shifted to the patio for use in my '87 Maytag A712 TL.

At this point, it seems Persil is the only detergent that won't generate too much suds in my FL machine.  Oxyclean is OK, but with certain items it can create a lot of suds, and with others not so much.

I'm interested in reading more posts about others' experiences.  Water is fairly hard here, so that's not a contributing factor.  Unless as a result of the drought, there has been less ground water in the supply.  If so, that could still be the case, as the aquifers are still being replenished.  It's possible my issues with suds will diminish in due time.

Thank you Barry. I like everything else about the washer but the rinsing. I mean it isn't really horrible but I notice the cloudy rinse water with Tide. Towels are definitely horrible with rinsing.

Just bought some Persil for the first time and it too made me have to do a 2nd rinse, but I might have used too much. It has a kind of soapy smell to it.Not bad at all.

OK so Sears is out of the running. Arm and hammer is out also. I used that A&H powder soon after we got our first DD Whirlpool washer. I noticed after some time the perforations in the wash basket were getting plugged up with like hard mineral deposits. Horrible stuff if that's what it does to a washer. Never heard or saw such a thing before.

rp2813, thanks also. I think a lot has to do with the design of the agitator. It whips up froth quickly. Though I think that agitator is perfect for that machine. I hope we won't ever see a dual action in these machines. The flex vane has the perfect amount of water action for that tub size I think.

Thanks Gyrofoam. That isn't a bad price for the 25 lb. pail and phosphates to boot ! This is definitely on my short list.
