I just picked this up today at Salvation Army for $5.  My mom used to have an early 60's version in powder blue with cursive black lettering.  This is the first time I've ever seen anything like it in a thrift store.

I cleaned it up and emptied the bag, but this one sounds a little tired and suction leaves a bit to be desired.  I'm not much of a vacuum person so don't know how these machines rate compared to others.  I like that it uses a bag.

Is it worth hanging onto?  Can bags still be found for it?

Apologies for the sideways picture.  It shows up correctly when I open it, but when I post it here, it's sideways.  Editing and rotating it didn't help.

I decided to join Vacuumland and check for more information, and was surprised to find that this Bissell is apparently an oddity on the forum over there too.

I think I'll try to get at the motor and see if I can liven it up some.  If I'm successful, I'll check the bag information and see if I can find a source on line.

Nice find, I found one a few years back that had been used once or twice. Here's a link to mine, in someone elses thread:

Alan, that's the same thread I found by using the "Dirtfinder" search!  I was surprised to see the comments reflecting that machines like this are rather unusual.

I dont really know anything about the Bissell stick vac Ralph, as anyone I ever knew that had a stick vac either had Hoover Quik-Brooms or Regina Electrik-Brooms. They sure are handy for quick pick ups, I use my Quik-Broom II for my laundry room vac.

A few years ago I bought a lot of miscellaneous vintage vac bags and I have a pack of bags for these if you need them

Thanks Sam.  I will have to put the machine through some paces first.  If it sucks, great, and I'll contact you about the bags.  If it just plain sucks, I'll probably donate it back to Salvation Army.
