Bounce Dryer Bar

Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

Help Support :

They are GREAT....

If you want a dryer fire (WAX + LINT= GUNKY MESS)
If you want a greasy oily stinky residue on your clothes that will eventually go rancid and need re-washing.
If you want to pollute the environment
If you want to reek of bad perfume
If you want to ruin your dryer's moisture sensors
If you want to rust and corrode your dryer

Other than that it sounds like a wonderful idea! LOL

Softeners lead to the use of more detergent
and more detergent leads to the use of more softener.

Dryer manufacturers here in this country DID NOT RECOMMEND dryer softeners for YEARS due to the hazards.

Then they finally realized it KILLS dryers much more quickly.

So they opted to say use METAL exhaust ducting instead of vinyl/plastic,hoping to avoid SOME fire damage.

Okay, okay...I promise that I won't do it again!

Dryer sheets and bars are a no no. I will use Bounce no more forever, at least not in the dryer. Though, I do like to put the sheets between my t-shirts and jumpers when I place them in their drawers. I saw the dryer bar advertised and it aroused my curiosity.

I check the ducting and dryer for lint build-up every few months. Its internals are squeaky clean. I even use a bottle cleaner every other week to brush out the lint filter space.

Thanks for the feedback.

Rapunzel?

Is your dryer an american or euro sized affair?

If its American style aka fierce heat, over sized heating elements/gas jets and rougher drying action creating unneccessary lint then sure if you feel absolutely better avoiding the Bounce then do so by all means,

I have personally gotten into using them and find laundry lacking in fragrance when not used. I really like them.

If its a Euro sized dryer then the gentler heat combined with the fact they create less lint blowing thru the ducting and filter dryer sheets and using softener just dosnt seem to be the risks they are in America. No fires have been caused by them here to my knowledge and im sure if it was an issue there would of been a campaign thrown by the health and safety do gooders.

Dont stop using them just because of scaremongering tactics, Id say that the fact you maintain your dryer with regualar cleaning counts for a whole lot more than those tho just leave their machines to rot.

Id say either way your pretty safe continuing to do so as long as the machine is regularly serviced :)

Bounce sheets

Are used on my towels as I do not use liquid softener on them as it reduces the absorbency of the towel but I like them to smell nice and a bounce sheet also prevents static cling which liquid does not.

I use both a Miele and an Electrolux Insight dryer and neither of them ever produce static cling.
I think it must be something to do with the type of drum, or how it's mounted.
The machines I use have stainless steel drums.

Could it be that enamel drums cause static ?

I don't use dryer sheets in the dryer!

I don't use dryer sheets either! We had a friend once who had a 1979/1980 something Maytag electric dryer. After she started using Snuggle dryer sheets her dryer litterally started to fry her clothes. I told her and told to have the sensors replaced but it fell on deaf ears. It finally died a premature death in the late 90's.

I peronsally think it shortens the life of a clothes dryer.

Just my opinion!

My whirlpool

Has no sensors its timed drying only and as I only use the sheets once or twice a week I don't have a concern, I did read about washing the lint screen as you get build up so I do that every few months.

MRX You could have a point actually with the different drum material as some machines seem to be worse than others... Thanks for that :)

Doesn't it smell so pretty?

LOL Scarmongering?

Oh that is ripe.

The laws of physics are universal and therefore the same everywhere even in perfect foreign dryers and evil American ones.

ROFLMAO.

<EYES ROLL>

Of course one can do as one wishes. But it is always better to think something through and "see" the "cause" and "effect" of one's actions not just, "lets add perfume to cover dirt".

:-)

Any hatemail will be graciously accepted by way of my private email; as one here has learned not to go against the masses openly.

I have a

siemens heat pump dryer
and i dont use dryer sheets in it, however, when it was new i used them as the plastic cover over the glass in the door collected static an every time i opend the door i got a static shock from the plastic, so i used them for a short time to reduce the static in the door.
when i use my compact white knight i do use them as it seems to create more cling.
stuff comes out of the siemens smelling fresh an smelling like the softener

Peel and Stick

I just cannot get past the peel and stick in my dryer. Seems like you are stuck with it, no pun.

The first boss I ever had and hated, said she always used two Bounce sheets in the dryer. As soon as I get a whiff of Bounce, I want to throw up.

Something to think about

I was trying to find a "natural" way to kill ants, and read something about setting dryer sheets out near them? I tried this and it worked!
So I don't use them anymore in my laundry!! Just use them to kill ants LOL

I find my dryer bar very convenient, durable & a much better & safer (I don't find 'em stuck in the lint trap) alternative to fabric softener sheets...

I get a reasonable life (or at least what the manufacturer claims) out of it, if I dry something that doesn't need fabric softener, I can take it out, or if I dry something heavy apt to cause breakage to it, then I take it out & use sheets that I still have a few of...

And I agree about the "Peel & Stick" being a bit of an inconvenience: You DO have to decide on a good, permanent location for it--and I realized I wanted it further in the dryer drum, but the place I have it, I've gotten used to...

Too bad, though, that, there's just no way to try different areas for the installation until you're sure it won't be hard on the back to install/remove/change your bar...

Summing up, "It's OK..." I can always take it out if I don't want my clothes to smell overly strong, but it's good to use for the baby's stuff...

Such varied responses don't make my life any easier...

What's a boy to do? Well, I was only curious and am always interested in something new. I must admit that the idea of sticking something inside the dryer, which may leave adhesive residue upon removal, sounds a bit iffy.

Fabric softener and dryer sheets are used very sparingly in my laundry. I usually do it to try out a new fragrance, some of which are not too bad. The detergents I use leave my clothes lightly scented anyway and I don't like overpowering perfume smells either.

I do agree with Toggles and have noticed that regular use of softeners, especially when doing cold washes, does cause residue build-up and mold problems in washers (not mine, but I've seen this elsewhere). Also, I don't use dryer sheets or liquid conditioner with my dark and black clothes, as they will leave oily spots on garments.

My dryer is a full-size Speed Queen to match my washer. It dries everything very quickly and efficiently. Mostly I use the medium heat setting on auto-sense. I don't find that it overheats the clothes. There is so much air going through it that it only gets hot once all the moisture has evaporated at which time it switches to cool down before it shuts off.

Adhesive Residue Upon Removal????

--Highly unlikely...!

Again, decide on a permanent location for your BOUNCE dryer bar holder that you can live with...

Mine is stuck in there so hard, I might take out some of the finish from the dryer drum with it!

Dryer Bar...

After inheriting a dryer with a Free N Soft packet (remember those?) permanently attached to the drum, I've steered clear of anything like that. I like to control what I use on the basis of the load I'm doing, so these products have never appealed to me. Plus, I rarely like the scent of any of the products out there, preferring clean fabric smell to perfumes.

I use a little vinegar in the rinse on dark clothes to rinse more cleanly, and use the rare unscented dryer sheet in really static-prone stuff (I buy very few synthetics and synthetic blends) and call it good.

Scent free for me

Ugggh the smell of Bounce or Febreeze. I don't get it.. So many folks these days are complaining of being allergic to scents etc yet people continue to buy these stinky products, same with room air fresheners.. Makes me wonder what their rooms smell like without them. Must be bad if you have to use a room air freshener continually.
