1st bidding war vet

sometimes being first on Ebay can Bite you when AFTER the auction you find out there are LOTS more where that came from, so I decided to share...a couple other members got a good deal too, they are just being shy..LOL

maybe a LOT later i may bid on a spare to keep just in case a KDS-18 pops up, it's not a priority right now as I'm still fine tuning the KDS-19

Yeah, the most annoying part of changing the inserts is getting the lower panel back on the machine.  It has to fit correctly on top and even when you think you have it right, it will often end up being loose.  You can spend half an hour trying, or you can get it right on the first try.  No rhyme or reason to it, even with instructions.

Sure-Temp

That is a 23 series clone ISE machine with the Power Module pump in it. It should also have the sure temp heating system in it wwhich WILL delay the timer advance during the main wash until the water reaches approx 140 degrees. I just picked up a KA KUDJ230 series and it DOES interrupt the timer to heat the water. A nice feature but sadly it doesnt heat the rinse water much at all. The drying in this machine definitely need a rinse agent but you can't beat the really powerful washing a 1/2 hp pump provides. I don't see much of a difference in the cleaning betwqeen the WP and KA pump designs so you will really like the results you get from yours.

There should be two thermostats mounted to the bottom of the tank on the left side. These are the delay thermostat and the thermal protector so the water temp doesnt get too hot.

Can't wait till you throw a big load of filthy dishes in and see what this baby can do!

Two different sizes!

Those panels fit all the "standard" sized doors from the 18 thru the 23 series. She most likely has the 23 Architect series which had a shorter door panel because the control panel was larger. It was designed to be the same size as the drawers of the cabinets so the machine would integrate into the cabinet lines better. If you can get them for close to the opening bid, it would be a good score. I have a feeling that she probably put a reserve on it so if she doesn't get someone to buy it now at 79.95, she can relist it and not have to give it to the top bidder.

If you can, check the home improvement stores in your area.Sometimes they have stainless sheeting that can be cut to fit for you. Just take one of the panels with you from the top and bottom and they can fix you up. Just make sure that they cut the panels with the grain going in the direction you want it to go, either vertically or horizontally.

You can also check the yellow pages for metal fabricators that do commercial kitchen work. They use stainless sheeting all the time and may have some smaller pieces they can sell you for a good price. Again, watch the grain!

BTW, the panels are easily removed from the frames if you simply take out the screws on one side of the frame. The panels will slip right out. You don't need to remove the door panel from the machine.

How do I like my machine?

Chris,
While I much prefer a Superba model to any of the lower level products, I always did like this machine as our first dual level washarm Kitchenaid was a KDC21D which was a Custom model with all the features of the higher level units, which included the adjustable upper rack with the flex-o-dividers which folded down to allow more flexible loading of the top rack. This particular machine lacks the flex-o-dividers and it is less convenient for our needs and what we are used to. But I always felt that it was a fantastic cleaner whether it had the Hobart pump or the WP pump. I still say that Hobart had the best idea for eating up foodstuffs with the disposer in the pump. I have seen Powermodule machines that managed to grind stuff down but not eject it all out the drain and eventually, caused a blockage in the pump that prevented the machine from draining. It has happened repeatedly to one of my cousins on his KUDS25 machine as well as his own son's Whirlpool machine. Once they disassembled the innards and found the debris, they cleaned it out and it worked fine again.

One thing I notice on this machine, though is that the upper rack also hangs lower than my other spare machines and it hits the dinner plates in the lower rack. I have to adjust the rack all the way up to clear them and then the taller glasses hit the top of the tank and it limits the ize of the bowls and plasticware I can load on top.
I suspect that the support rollers may be worn but haven't checked them yet. I will do that later and report back.

I like the positive heating on it which didn't come about until WP made the engineering change. On the 21 Custom, you could only get so much of a temp increase during the washes so if your water was cooler or there was more water in the tank than normal (I used to remove the flow valve to make the purges into short rinses). This machine will guarantee 140 water regardless of water level.

I would have to say that if I had come upon this machine 3 years ago, I would still have my Kitchenaid tall tub in the box in the garage as it is in good condition and is white on white like my other kitchen appliances. My wife still complains about the racking in the tall tub. She has only known the classic Kitchenaid style racking layout and has complained about the new machine since I installed it. Don't get me worng, the tall tub is a great cleaner as well, but who wants a cycle that takes over 2 hours at times to do the dishes?

You will love your machine and like John said, with reasonable care, you will get years of service out of it. You may want to try to stockpile some spares for it as the parts are basically obsolete.

Hope that answers your question.

Just to clarify, the last set of panels from that eBay seller went for the opening price with no reserve.

I didn't notice that the top rack isn't adjustable on the ISE.  You can switch it out with an adjustable type if you find a good one on a machine of similar vintage.

Here's a shot of my Classic Supreme with top rack switched out from a KDS-20 (blue door gasket is off the KDS-20 as well -- it was in cleaner shape than the white one originally on the ISE):

I am new to this site, and saw your pics on the insinkerator dishwasher.
Did you take this machine and install it in your home yet?
