Some while ago someone posted a link to a Brastemp commercial on YouTube picturing a dancing washing machine. Well, last week I was visited by a friend of mine who is married to a Brazilian woman, and I asked her to listen to the song and write down the lyrics (I can understand and speak some Portuguese but not to the point of fully understanding the lyrics of a song!).

Here are the lyrics in Portuguese my friend's wife wrote down, which I later translated into English. Of course, no attempt was made to make any rhyme at all between the different lines, LOL!

Deixe-me aqui a chacoalhar,
acho que vou me desmontar,
aqui era o meu lugar.
Giro pra cá, giro pra lá,
se me amarrarem eu vou pular
daqui do 5º andar.
Quebrei o pé na 6ª feira,
essa vez não foi a primeira,
nem vou mais me enxaguar,
nem mais bater, nem me molhar.

Coro: Deixa ela vir e me contar, prometo ir sem reclamar,
vem Brastemp pro meu lugar.
La ri ri la ra la ra

Coro: Deixa ela vir e me poupar, prometo ir, vou sem chorar,
uma Brastemp vem me salvar.

The English translation:

Let me shake here,
I think I am going to move,
I was set here,
I turn here, I turn there,
If they bolt me down I am going to jump,
Right here from the fifth floor,
On Friday I broke my foot,
And that was not the first time,
I am not going to rinse any more,
I am not going to swirl anything, or wet anything.

Chorus: Let her come and tell me, I promise to go without a claim, a Brastemp is replacing me
Lalalaa

Chorus: Let her come and save me, I promise to go, I am leaving without a cry, a Brastemp is coming to my rescue!

I hope you enjoy it!

I love that washer! I think I have those same singers on an excellent compilation cassette. Thanks for bring him back!

Emilio,
Thanks for posting this video!
I have watched it so many times this morning!
It is so creative and catchy!
Besides being a very cute and catchy tune....I just love how the song makes you feel sorry for the washer, and know that he did his job over the the years, and the parting will sweet and understanding. Although the washer is sad, and even sounds sad in his song, he is okay with it because a Brastemp is coming to replace and save him from anymore hardship. What super marketing! And you don't even see the new washer, just hear the name.
I just love it!
Does anyone know the name of the company that produced the commercial?
Thanks again for posting the link, with your translation!

Brent, I'm so glad you enjoyed it too! I must have watched it at least two dozen times, and counting, LOL! The clip is called "Washroom Samba", and at the end you can read "The Suffering is Over".

One curious bit: listen again to the chorus lines and pay close attention at how the brand Brastemp is pronouced: you will hear "Brastem-pee". Brazilians can't seem to be able to end a word with a consonant, and decor these words with an "ee" ending (as in Bee-Gees). The national carrier Varig is pronounced as "Vari-gee", and a Mustang car is a "Mustan-gee". I love this peculiar soundful decoration of words every time I visit this beautiful country with even more beautiful people.

Mercy!

When was this wonderful commercial first shown?

I wish American washer commercials were half as creative as this!

!Thank you, Emilio!
