And where does your chosen condemnation (Genesis ch.9) of gays specifically say that Sodom was destroyed because of the 'sin of homosexuality'? It doesn't. It never did until different translations and usages came about in the christian era. Bible verses have been selectively plucked out of context to condemn Jews, blacks, women, and even other christians for centuries. The most amusing of these come from the writings of Paul. Please don't force your twisted vision of the world on anyone else, we here can defend ourselves and our beliefs but it's the ignorant masses I worry most about. You have corrupted them with hatred and violence for long enough.

I will be happy to discuss Leviticus with you anytime, right after you've made a burnt offering of a small animal to your sky-god, lest you be put to death of course.

"" i think thats whats wrong with america today, no one listens to gods word anymore, as if his word is not needed to properly raise our children. we really need more religion. think about it guys."
Hmmm, so what was so right about slavery in America yesterday, Indian residential schools in yesterdays America, the incarceration of American born Japanese and Ukranians during WWI, forced sterilization of the mentally handicapped in America yesterday and so many other attrocities that makes today seem like it's all going to Hell? Must be that people today are actually being allowed to be people and live their lives free from the misguided fear that you and your type carry within your heartless souls.

okay, let me throw my two cents in for what its worth

okay, i'm gonna throw my opinion in here coz i can't resist it. I am a non religious person, i don't judge religion as rubbish or nonsense because for some people in the world religion is all they have to keep them happy. However i myself do not follow any religion altho my family did way back. So if God is against homosexuality then why did he create it. The ruling of the bible says that people came from Adam and Eve, the first people God created, apparently God created everything about life so he must have created homosexuality somewhere along the line. And as Rick said, in the Ten Commandments it says LOVE THY NEIGHBOUR so if we are all going to follow gods word then LOVE THY NEIGHBOUR wether he be gay, black or whatever. Who cares? Gay people can't help how they were born, and now thanx to religion they live in fear of what will become of them after they die, In my opinion religion is a constriction on life. I could never lie my life worrying about everything i do because i might just end up in hell. I wake up in the morning i go to work i come home have dinner and go to bed, on the weekends i go out and get merrily drunk and have sex with other men, and you know what its great and i don;t have to worry about praying extra hard at night to make up for it. I am not saying religions is a bad thing, its just its easier to live without it then it is to live with it.
Here endeth the lesson

My to-do list

1. order movie tickets on-line for this weekend

2. postpone Bible study group til Hell freezes

3. stop by Sprawlmart, get boxes of baking soda (something stinks)

4. make sure paper shredder in working order

5. print a few of these threads for further study

6. clean and freshen Fluffy's litter box

7. make tea, put feet up

I'm always flabbergasted by the fact that those strict religious people always know how to tell other people how to conduct their sexual life but in the meantime don't think twice before putting a piece of pork in their mouth. Those people just choose which rules to follow and which ones not.

Personally I'm not a big rule follower. For instance in a lot of cake recipes it says to cream the butter first, then add the sugar, then the eggs one by one and then the flour. I hate that. Creaming the butter costs a lot of effort. I never play by that rule. I start with the eggs and the sugar, then add the melted (!) butter and then the flour. Much easier!!

So, cake anyone?
Or to stick with the subject... Sex anyone? (This is a tongue in cheek remark! I repeat tongue in cheek!!!!)

To Oldwasherguy

Hi Don,

I'm not going to pontificate but I am going to ask why you feel the need to come on to an "old appliance" group and save our souls? I would like to suggest that there are souls out there that are more in need of saving. Perhaps you can pray for the soul of Father Goeghan who chose to fondle/ruin the lives of several children OR then there is the miserable soul of Cardinal Cushing who's sins were rewarded with a promotion to the Vatican!!

Who am I? I'm a 43yo man who believes in doing right by his fellow man, believes in God and has a wonderful relationship with Him. Oh, I'm also a man who has been in an 18 year relationship with a man who is my soulmate and not only love but am in love with. A sin? Don't you be the judge....That's GODS work!

If I wish to have religious enlightenment then I will go to MY priest.

Thank,
Rich

What befuddles me is that many people advise that they are "Christian" as though this is a way of saying that they are a "good person". I remember when the BTK maniac was described by his neighbors as seeming like a "fine Christian man". Many Christian people are wonderful and kind, then there are those who would not be so kind. I like to believe that G-d is loving and comforting, not vengeful and hurtful.

to all who responded

i was not the one who brought up brokeback mountain.one of you did. i never said that i hate gays,or wanted to hurt anybody. one of you asked me to show you what the bible said about gays. i did,and you all have called me hurtful names. i have something in common with everyone here,i love vintage appliances. if i am still welcome here, give me some kind words, for i only had good intentions. Don

Don,

If you have good intentions, then keep your comments appliance related. That's what this website is about, and by keeping to appliance related topics only, you will never clash with anyone else's personal opinions or beliefs.

Don;
you're intial statement in the Brokeback thread was quote
i have not seen this film, but i think it is about gay guys. it is not a sin to be gay, but the bible says to resist the homosexual urges,or burn in hell for all eternity.

That statement alone is what started all this and then someone asked you for Bible quotes. Those are your beliefs and also the beliefs of others on this forum but also NOT the beliefs of others on this forum, there is split in opinions on the subject so why on earth would you say that in the first place when no one was asking for controversial religious viewpoints on the subject but merely discussing a movie. We all know full well that not everyone agree's and so be it so there's no point in bringing the matter up in the first place on here.
Other than that post away.

Peter is right------------!!!!!

In my opinion, for the most part, we here at *AUTOMATIC WASHER* have had a really nice forum. Yeah, we are all *alley cats* different in many ways and even if we scrap with each other now and then we can at least be civil.

BUT in recent times things have changed! We have been invaded by folks from other areas whose heart of hearts are NOT with us!People who join up just to ask how to fix their machines, or find out a price range for E-Bay, and then never pay the rest of us the time of day again need to go away! AND THEN there are the OTHER outsiders-----.

We should get back in our own back yards!
We *AUTOMATIC WASHER* folks already have this web site thanks to Robert, and we should play in our own yard.

The *religious fundamentalists* should stay in their own back yard.

The *vacuum cleaner* folks should stay in THEIR own back yard.

And so on, and so on-----------

So we *AUTOMATIC WASHER* folks can enjoy OUR website once again, WITHOUT offensive attacks from outsiders!

I have really enjoyed this SUPER site as it is fun to post recipies, and talk about old cars now and then. BUT if we can't police ourselves and have a little respect for our differences, than I don't care if I never post on a *SUPER* type thread again.

So I say, you are with us or you are not. If you are not, go play in your own back yard.

I don't think the rest of us will have much trouble *keeping it clean* like we USED to do. Like anywhere else, talk of religion. politics, and sexual innuendo, are topics certain to hurt someone's feelings.I am certainly NOT squeaky clean, BUT I love my friends and certainly would not want to hurt their feelings, and it makes me really angry when someone else hurts my friends.

Hopefully we can get back on track and enjoy this web site again.

Best wishes to all!

We have just enough religion to make us hate,
But not enough to make us love one another.

Terry (tlee) sent me the soundtrack to Brokeback Mountain which I've been listening to quite a bit the last couple of weeks. Every song is about caring, love and togetherness. I think we've all made some very close friends as a direct result of coming together here in these forums, hopefully we can keep this in the front of our minds and not let petty differences and detractors, in any form, come between us.

Greg-I couldn't have said it better. Everyone - Don't get sucked in to the negative energy of the fundamentalists. You will never get them to see the world except through their eyes only. What you see through your eyes is most important.

I need to add this

I posted my idea of why we are here in "Getting a little uneasy here" so I won't repeat that.

I think many men are uneasy, to put it mildly, about this subject because Brokeback is so true. After all, I met my first lover when I was 14 and we met up for the next 4 years. He was "straight" got married and had two kids. Many of my early encounters have gotten married. Many guys go through this and really are not "gay". They don't want to be reminded that they did have these encounters, and how much they enjoyed them.

Also, many of the members shatter many myths, they are mechanically inclined, very articulate and intelligent, have many interests, are quite family oriented, and good all around people. That's scary to some who would condem us.

So, if we go "straight" like they did in Brokeback, and get married, is that really the best for all concerned? It seems that society pushes people in that direction.

And, what makes many of us so angry is that we were killed en mass in the past. The word "faggot" means kindling because we were burned up. Hitler had thousands of gays killed along with the Jews, handicapped, and old people. The Salem witch trials were certainly about lesbians in some cases. I think the religious traditions which teach who is sinfull are easy for the weak minded to use to call names, pick-on, and kill gays. So that's why we get huffy when others tell us what they think is in store for us.

And thanks to Robert for allowing a couple of non-related threads, as foraloysius says it's who we are and what we enjoy.
