oh yes.

I love watching the audience's reation to such "delicate" themes in the suburbs of Long Island, then I go see it in Greenwich Village or Chelsea, which are both full of gay people.

Believe you me the sighs, grunts gasps and laughs are all in VERY different places.

Off on a tanget for a brief sec... I literally bumped into my mother outside a movie theater one evening. She was with a friend and I was with my partner. We all happened to be going to see "The Crying Game". OF ALL THINGS! I had to explain the WHOLE darned plot. LOL

I haven't seen it yet but eagerly awaiting. The film was shot only a few miles away from my house so that I want to see. Brad Pitt just finished filming The Assassination of Jesse James around here as well.

Darrell,
I spent 2 years at Beale AFB when growing up. I loved Grass Valley, a most charming little town. We would stop there on our way to pan for gold in the mountains. Fun, fun.

Yes, Sacramento best bet.

It opens in Minneapolis at the wonderful Uptown Theater this weekend; I'm seeing it Saturday.

I was with a friend at a sold-out showing of The Constant Gardener back in late October. The trailer for Brokeback was given a viewing and the audience had apparantly been stunned into absolute silence by it. My friend Tom, a little worse for wear, having downed several screwdrivers shortly beforehand, turns to me and pipes up in full voice, "Oh, we're DEFINITELY going to see THAT one!" The place burst into laughter. Slightly embarrassing, but a classic moment, nonetheless.

I can't wait to see it.

I am encouraged to see the interest from everyone here. I am waiting for the release in Austin Texas.
One thing that I stumbled across concerning this film is that it is viewed in Europe as one of the best outtakes of being oppressed in the US. The film is being handled differently overseas, as a window on our culture. I never thought of anything like this, now I won't be able to see this film without thinking what other nationalites think. Hmmm.

The LOGO channel has a half hour program on the making of Brokeback Mountain. I do want to see it, but wonder if it will play at the local megaplex. The last "gay themed" movie with Colin Farrell, "A Home at the End Of the World"??? never came to the area!

Every culture has its twists, and the cinema mirrors it.

In ancient Greece, the METHOD of a murder was not shown or discusssed on stage, so as to keep the methods from becoming well-known.

In modern Greece you can show ANYTHING at all (triple X even)... except the bad guys getting away with crime. Sends the wrong message.

GO FIGURE!

Hi Toggle!

Yes, ours is the culture that flips out if a woman's nipple is exposed, but we don't mind showing brain-blowing violence. We claim to be the protectors of life, yet we have a death penalty. We go on and on about being the land of the free, yet everything costs money. (Ba-boom, CHING! Thank you ladies and gentlemen, I'll be here all week....)

Put out the paramecium, Tog...

....and we like to talk about redemption, but we act on revenge.

but yes, I too want to see this movie (and that's unusual - you usually have to restrain me or drug me to get me in a movie theatre) It looks like a very sweet film.

Greek Theater

Anything that was too horrible to show, like Oedipus putting out his eyes when the truth is revealed, was done off stage or ob skene (ske-ne), 2 syllables with the accent on the first. That's how we get the word obscene. The opening in the wall through which the stage is revealed is framed by the proscenium arch. The proscenium is the part of the stage in front of the curtain.

TKS. I really appreciate the tid-bit.
Seriously.

My Big Fat Greek....
TTOU EINAI TO WINDEX (where is the Windex?...)
And KIMONO comes from the Greek XEIMONAS which means winter, so therefore it is a garment to keep warm.......

BUNS? BUNDT?
KEIK EINAI MOPH
(It's a cake, dingbat)
AH CAKE!

My friend and I will definitely be inclined to see this movie. He absolutely loves the idea of Heath Ledger and Jake Gyllenhaal playing in this movie.

Now, my leading men would be different, but I'm still interested in the movie.
