Hi..I need your advice on STPP I have always ordered mine from Dafna General Store with no problems with the product itself. Their are a number of people over on gardenweb that recieved recent orders the past few months of STPP from the same company and its causing problems its turning into hard crusty matter and sticking on the washers boot and on clothing, I opened my last order upon reading this and dropped a spoonful into a glass of hot water in a glass..it also turned into a hard crusty mass that took a very long time just for part of it to disolve. So I washed a load of colors on hot water Top load SQ after it spun out from washing I pulled the clothes out and found this hard crusty stuff all over the clothes. I figured I'd ask you if you have any advice on what could be wrong, you are after all the leading expert on STPP around here.
Also I've been told phosphates could if used regularly cause drainage problems..any truth to this? Thank you much for your time...Cheryl

I get my phosphates from the same store, expecting a delivery today - that's a little worrying!

AM guessing it could be contaminated by calcium sulfate? It should precipitate in the process of making STPP but steps could have been skipped.

Washingpowder...when yours arrives will you drop a spoonful in hot water stirr a few times and let me know what happens? Ya this is concerning since I have a 20 pound bag of this stuff. Thank you.

Dafna STPP

Hi Everyone:
I got my STPP from Dafna (via Amazon) in April 2015. I have not had any issues.

I did a quick test today in hot water and it dissolved in 30 seconds with only mild agitation. (This was with more than the normal amount used with laundering to demonstrate worst case: 1 tbsp. in 4 cups of hot water.) The water was only very slightly cloudy (cloudiness seems more apparent in the photo than what I observed) with no undissolved granules after approximately 1 minute.

Total calcium hardness was 450-800 ppm before adding STPP and was 0 ppm after.

Attached are pictures of the water before adding STPP (photo 1) and after adding with 30 seconds of agitation and 60 seconds of clearing time (photo 2). I placed a card with graphics behind the container to help judge clarity.

Possibly there was a bad lot number of STPP?

Bob

Seems like my batch is perfectly fine.

Dafna was always very helpful even when USPS messed up - try an e-mail, they'll certainly help.
