This is a funny but true story...A friend of mine who grew up in the 50s said his Mom and Dad bought a nice tract house in the mid 50s and by about 59 had re modeled the kitchen, they went all out, even having custom wormy chesnut cabinets made, they installed a new wall oven and cooktop, which was the in thing then,no I dont know what kind, he did not remember,...Anyway, one day while his Mom was at work, it seems Dad got a little tipsy...and decided he wanted something to eat, so all he could find was a big canned ham, he put it in the oven...UNOPENED! and turned it on!,well about 30 minutes later my friend who was playing outside said there was a terrible kaboom from in the house!!! He ran inside to see what had happened, only to be greeted by the sight of a smoke filled room...the oven door swinging by one hinge and shreds of ham and tons of grease everywhere!! the best was yet to come!!! about that time his Mom came home from work!!! then She proceeded to beat Daddy with a big wooden spoon!! all the while my friend was watching from outside laughing!!! He said it took weeks to fix the kitchen..

I'm sure. When cooking with alcohol, it is best to keep the booze out of the chef.

In the late 70s, just before Passover, a young woman I knew was preparing the food items and decided to make the roasted egg for the Seder plate. There is a secret to doing it that she did not know so she put a raw egg in the old Tappan electric wall oven, the one with the small chrome door and the sort of arching handle like from the Doughboy ranges, in the house the group was renting. So she turns it on to a high roasting temperature since it is supposed to darken and look roasted and is going about the house doing things when there is a terrific explosion in the kitchen. She ran in to find the oven door blown open and hot liquid egg bits WELDED, not only to the oven interior, but in a wide pattern to a large part of the kitchen in front of the oven. I think it affected the oven door hinges so that it did not close as tightly after that. You can imagine how the house smelled. You might have heard the term "hard boiled egg fart" well, think about it with a steam catapult effect. I have seen microwave ovens with the door broken by the force of an exploding egg.

I think I am going to suggest this to the Mythbusters.  Like to see the ham blow up!

My sister did the Microwave/egg thing.  Her Dad and Step-whore got a new Tappan range with a built in microwave on top.

Sis decided to "boil" a hard boiled egg for her lunch.  This Microwave didn't have glass in the door only the screen.  Egg went everywhere.  She spent weeks with a toothbrush and toothpick cleaning that oven.  Luckily it didn't blow the door off or anything.  But it was hard to imagine that egg parts could be blown into such little pieces.
