Cascade with Phosphates

Many a dishwasher that did not need replacing got replaced when the phosphates were taken out of DW detergent. People "not paying attention" weren't aware of the change and thought their dishwashers needed replacing.

We stockpiled DW detergent with phosphates and still have at least a years supply left. But we have tried a bag of the new Cascade Complete and it looks like they are getting better with the formula. It's almost as good as the vintage stuff.

I bought a shipment of Institutional Cascade (5 or 6 85 oz boxes and I believe) I"m on my 2nd box.  It does ok on many soils, but for very difficult, burned on, baked on food and some intense starchy stuff, it just cannot cut it.  I keep testing it to its limits.  I still have a few more packs of old fashioned Cascade Complete that I use for some of those needs stated above.  I use it sparingly.  I hope this Bubble Bandit will do the trick because I don't believe in soaking or pre-rinsing anythihng.  I've not soaked anything in my sinks for over 25 years after I got the GSD1200.   The dishwasher has to tackle this job not me.

replacing DWs

Whirlcool, I think your dead on about many a dishwasher being replaced needlessly. Heck, I even began wondering if something was wrong with my then 4 year old Ultrawash. I love how the detergents now all have "endorsements" from the major OEMs on their packages.

I've been reading up on bubble bandit and I'm going to order some to try. I may also try to find some Cascade institutional to try.

is at GFS (Gordon Food Service), which is open to the public.

There's one in Murfreesboro TN. There are currently about 150 nationwide.

I haven't noticed any caking with the institutional Cascade that I have.......of the six boxes that were in the case - I think I'm down to three boxes left after the current box is gone which is still half full......

I don't mind the bleach smell. It's not that strong and you know everything is sanitized

I also use the pots/pans cycle as it's the only cycle that gives two rinses at the end. I can tell the dishes are rinsed better using that cycle and it's only about 80 to 90 min's long.

Question about bubble bandit - Does it foam as bad as finish quantum? That's the only thing I don't like about quantum. Even with hard water here, you can still hear the dishwasher struggling somewhat with the suds as it's washing.

Mark, I've not heard about foaming? I've been using finish quantum haven't seen or heard this happeing ot mine.

Not nearly as much. I have just a tinge of foam at the end of the main wash cycle my KDS-18, but the cycles on that machine are very short compared to today's dishwashers. However, the wash action in that machine is extremely aggressive by today's standards, so it's probably a fair comparison. Finish Quantum would start suds locking my KDS-19 less than halfway through the 10 minute main wash cycle.

I had the same trouble with some of the gel pacs and the quantum in my KDS-18 too.
