Has anyone else bought a Christmas gift for yourself?

It has been a stressful week for me. Mom has been in and out of the hospital
twice, and is now okay and settled back into her assisted living. While
driving home the other day, I was passing a Goodwill that I haven't visited
in some time and decided to stop for a little distraction from everything
that has happened this week.

This is what I found and it was coming home with me. I have been looking for
this dinnerware for about 10 years and found a service for 10. Ebay was too
easy, I prefer the hunt, and finally success!

Great choice - Lazy Daisy is my everyday china!  I don't have service for 10, but I do for somewhere between 6 and 8, and that's plenty enough for me.  I could stand to add the sugar bowl, otherwise I think I have enough.

I have my mothers nicest stuff, called Salem Biscayne. Looks similar to that style only mine is blue. Have service for 8, pattern is different but similar styleing. Ma got them for shopping at her local grocery store for a buck a week for a place setting. Seen them selling on e-bay for 250 plus. cuffs, sorry to hear of the hip. Neighbor of mine had that and was fine before they thought she would, hopefully, you too

Great china; congratulations on finding it. I bought myself new plumbing under the kitchen sink and a garbage disposer. Not the gift I wanted...but my 52 year-old house made the decision for me, LOL.

Congratulations on the china! Isn't that a remarkable feeling when you spot something you have wanted for a long time? What a rush. I get the feeling that it is like a celestial arm has reached down and put it in a place where I would find it. I always make sure to whisper a "Thank you."

especially something like those vintage dishes, not like they come along all that often, and you can wait for a sale....great purchase

I have bought myself so much, I am almost ashamed.  I won't be sending anything back, but I will have to hold off self-gifts for awhile.

 

Got my Cuisinart Panini Griller Wednesday--love it.   Will be using the waffle plates in the morning.

Yes, I just bought a set of Homer Laughlin "Riviera" dishes from a friends shop. They are NOS, and were made sometime between 1938 and 1943, as they include the Fiesta Red color. I haven't picked them up yet.

Christmas came in October for me:  a new metal roof for the house; new high-efficiency heat pump; removal of a 75 foot cotton wood tree in my back yard slowly dying and threatening to take me with it if it fell on the house.  (my bedroom is well within striking range).

Or you can't always get what you want, but you get what you need.

Went in for a scheduled colonoscopy Monday and instead had A-fib. Shocked the hell out of me and back to normal. Good for another go I guess. Have to be thankful was in the right place at the right time. No smoking or drinking for me anymore. That will make you quit real fast.

I couldn't even list the things I/we have ended up buying for ourselves while doing our holiday shopping.

 

One thing I blatantly gave myself for my 50th birthday was having my 1950 bakelite Admiral TV re-capped and brought back to life by a local hobbyist.  I had owned it since the early '80s when I found it in a thrift store for $5.  It has been a fun novelty item and conversation piece over the years since it was repaired, and has seen more use since the "Antenna TV" channel started broadcasting programs from the so-called "golden age" of television.
