Does anyone here occasionally invert pockets on their clothing and brush/clean out lint and debris?  Grass from mowing, lint, crumbs from doggie treats ... the normal washing/drying process doesn't flush out that stuff.

+1 on the vacuum approach.

Also when I’ve had a tissue in pocket disaster in the washing machine I’ve always found a few mins in the dryer and clean the filter and then continue works extremely well.

I’ve generally never found the Miele washing machine I have has major issues with cleaning pockets though. They always seem fine.

One thing that’s impressive is when I’ve left tissues accidentally in the wash they’ve often come out undamaged. Despite the cycle being fairly seriously tumbled, sloshed with recirculating pump and distribution spins, high rinse levels etc etc it’s just extremely gentle. That honeycomb drum appears to be more than a marketing gimmick.

Pockets don't seem to open wide during washing for water currents to flow in and around and flush out lint and debris, even with agitator toploaders.

Vacuuming pockets hadn't come to mind, duh!  Would be a bit of ruckus involved pulling out the Hoover Celibrity.  The shop vac is more immediately at-the-ready in the garage other than connecting to power.  I recently bought a stick vac which detaches from its wand for hand-held use.

The only cleaning I do on my pockets, is I just check them

For anything large, such as paper or keys, occasionally, whenever I do, laundry, then, after that into the Wash, they go, and I found out that my pockets actually turned themselves inside out during the Wash process with my shorts although occasionally I have pulled them inside out and shaken them to get any crap out of them

Dadoes...

I just have to ask, are you using a Front Load Washer? While I do shake things out from time to time and make sure I have not left a company flash drive, or keys in pockets - I've never had this issue.

I know I have left little crumbs and stuff in my pockets, and it just disappears in the wash. In my Deep Fill Top Loader, the clothes get really agitated and submerged.

I could picture in my head that a Front Loader might allow this stuff to remain. That's why I ask.

Grass in particular you definitely would not want to leave in a pocket. That will stain the shirt.

I just check the pockets primarily for coins and keys and also for paper tissues.

I once found the smashed up remains of a lost set of keys including a ~4" lever lock key with the end missing in my parents washing machine sump, fortunately back when machines still had a steel outer tub, so it had just dented the stainless steel drum. If it had been a modern plastic tub machine it would have written it off.

Normally I don't need to turn them inside out, I'd only do that if they were packed full of sawdust.
