coin operated washers

I am spending a ton of money on the washers in my apartment comlex. It is 4 quarters to wash and 4 quarters a load to dry. There is no hook up for a machine in the apartment so they are forcing me to use their equipment. I am just wondering if there is a way to trip or trick the machines into working for free? Is there? They are Kenmore commercials with the 4 slot coin slider. They are top loaders. Thanks!

Around here, it's a lot more per load.

There are small machines that don't have to be permanently installed, but your lease might forbid them.

If the coin box has a round key cylinder, you *could* purchase a key to open the box and re-use the coins. Although if the machine has a "load-o-meter," then that may not be such a good idea...

Are You Asking Us Here To Condone Theft?

If you cannot afford to use the machines provided, may one suggest you get a bar of soap and a wash tub and have at it. Not only will you have clean laundry but a very good upper body work out as well.

No one is "forcing" you to use anything. You can shop around and find another laundromat that has cheaper machines, or scrounge around and maybe a friend or family member will let you use their machines.

As a coin laundry owner, I must say:

Quit your whining! $1 to wash and $1 to dry is nothing. Haul your whiny butt to a laundromat and see the prices we must charge to make a living. You should be so lucky to have inexpensive facilities there with which to wash and dry.

On the other hand, stay right there and whine. I don't want you to visit my stores and try to steal from me.

In fact, let me know your apartment complex and address so that I can turn you in at the office on suspicion for theft and possible vandalism to the equipment your complex provides.

You need to remember the landlord has to pay for the water and energy the machine use-that is in what you pay to use the machines-I lived in an apartment house as well-and it was part of the life there-also the college dorm had coin washers and dryers tonly way to get away from them is move to an apartment that has WD hookups so you can bring your own machines or move into a house.Homes can be rented or purchased.If you do try to defeat the machines you can be evicted from your apartment-and it would be difficult to find another-Landlords pass these things on to each other!Of course if the person moves into a home-remember the electric,gas,and water bills that go with home ownership or renting.So you still have to pay to use the laundry machines.Not to forget-you have to buy your own if you moved into the house.

Laundry Routine

We have coin operated Whirlpool top loading machines on all five residential floors of our building. The washers are $1.25 (five quarters per load). The Whirlpool Dryers are 75 cents per 30 minute load. Since I like my clothes to last as long as possible, I prefer to hang dry them on my bathroom shower curtain rod (as I just did a few hours ago: Nothing like that Downy April Fresh scent). Of course, I still use the tumblers for drying my linens, blankets, and such. And since we recently went through a change to a better property owner/manager for our building, the expense for the machines is now less of an issue here. Furthermore, since this place is a low income facility, I am not in a good position to move elsewhere; yet, doing laundry would still be the least of my concerns.--Laundry Shark
