Vitamin C, LOTS of water, Eucalyptus and this stuff is AWESOME!! I first found out about it on a forum when my cats paw pad got infected and used it first before taking her to the vet. It totally took the infection away in 2 days and her paw got better. After looking into it, I take it at the first sign of getting sick and I don't end up getting sick.....

I dunno if it's a secret but it works well for me when I've got a bad cold. Fresh cooked chicken and plenty of pure fresh orange juice or grapefruit juice seems to shorten it.

I'm not a doctor...

but I am an RN in an ICU. Best advice is prevention....get that flu shot! Secondly, wash those hands boys and girls, especially after touching things that everyone else touches..like shopping carts at Walmart, pews at church, elevator buttons, hand rails, and always wash your hands after shaking hands with the preacher after church (he's touched everybody who's been picking their noses during prayer)!

Soup

My local Chinese restaurant has the best Won Ton soup. Sometime I swing by and pick up a quart. It is very soothing...

That's exactly what I used anytime I felt something coming on and it works, but back when I was a little more active and fit, I would drink a couple gallons of OJ, per day....remember, I was active (burned up 7000 calories a day). That said, it pays to be in shape, as exercise is nature's vacuum for your body and helps to defend colds, flu, etc. better. Everyone has a different set of working solutions, as I think it's hard to identify what works best for each of us.

For symptomatic relief, I use Nyquil, Robitussin D where needed, and liquids, as you all mentioned above.

Soups - clear chicken broth or won-ton are excellent, too.

I would be very hesitant to use the Silver Sol. Those who reported having great results still took risks, imho.

My trick? Pseudoephedrine and booze...  Not together, but at the first sniffle I take the pseudo  and a bit later a few shots of whiskey.  If I get it soon enough it starves off the worst of the cold.  I used to use Slivovits but it is hard if not impossible to come by anymore.

I get annual flu shots.

I also get about every 10 years the following vaccines:

Pneumonia, tetanus, whooping cough (pertussis).

Also got a shingles vaccine shot as soon as I turned 60.

I used to work in an immunology research lab. I'm convinced the major vaccines are an extremely good idea. They might not always prevent contracting the disease they are designed to prevent, but they certainly improve the odds in one's favor.

I NEVER ...

... get flu shots.

EVER.

I've never had a flu shot and never had the flu.

I rarely get colds, either. I attribute this to eating clean (only real, natural, "whole" foods), and getting plenty of sleep (at least 8 hours a night). I also take a high quality plant-based vitamin, as well as probiotics and a glyconutrient.

When I feel a cold coming on, I take at least 2 teaspoons of raw honey and eat at least one orange (never drink oranage juice unless I squeeze it myself). That usually nips it right in the bud.
